“Stay dead!”
A Través del Manto came to life in 2018, amidst the cold and rainy lands of Puerto Montt, down in the south of Chile. Drawn to the dark tunes of the Gothic Rock era from the ’80s and ’90s, Victor “Torment” Villanueva and Pedro “Horrorhammer” Lagos began their silent steps into conceptual and musical composition. Their brooding brainstorm bore fruit in early 2023 with their debut single, Xmal Funeral.

Joined by “The Necronaut” on vox and “Moorten” on bass and branding themselves as “Death Goth,” they’re steeped in the sinister sounds and shadowy aesthetics of gothic greats like Corpus Delicti, Fields of the Nephilim, and Nosferatu, with a nod to Héroes del Silencio and a wink at newer acts like Grave Pleasures and Twin Tribes.

The latest from FAUX PRIX, That Looks Like a House, is an indie festival-ready banger, the upbeat soundtrack to your less-than-perfect evening. It’s a tune that’s ready to take you on a wild ride, even when the night doesn’t go as planned.

The lyrics capture the fleeting nature of modern relationships, marked by digital connections and lonely encounters. They reflect on the emptiness of material wealth, yearning for genuine companionship. New Zealand born singer, Bradley Hanan Carter (NO, 5 Billion in Diamonds, Steriogram) says That Looks like a House was written “for anyone who has ever had a mishap on a dating app… or otherwise stumbled across the incredibly strange new world of online projecting.”

The DIY lyric video for the song shows Carter musing in the driver’s seat of his car. Watch below:

FAUX PRIX is an indie collective from California, led by New Zealand-born artist Bradley Hanan Carter (NO, 5 Billion in Diamonds, Steriogram) and his friends. Carter, who has been known to moonlight as a traveling shampoo salesman, installed a writing studio in a Winnebago named ‘Geraldine the Sun Machine,’ driving it over 16,000 miles across the USA. After work, he crafted songs in RV parks and hotel rooms, sharing existential conversations with fellow travelers. Berlin played a significant role in his creative process, inspiring many of his songs.

In early 2020, Carter embarked on a solo tour, opening for Reuben and the Dark. Though successful, he missed the camaraderie of his bandmates. Post-pandemic, he returned to Berlin, collaborating with longtime friend and guitarist Michael Guy Chislett (NO, The Academy Is). By the end of 2023, during a desert recording session in Landers, CA, they recruited Sean Daniel Stentz, Spike Philips (NO), and Devon Lee (Races) to complete the FAUX PRIX sound.

FAUX PRIX spoke with Post-Punk.com about their inspiration, their hopes, and their fondest memories of their career thus far.

What was your inspiration for ‘That Looks Like A House?’

I went on an app date with someone who had very different political views to myself, but we found a mutual solace in our loneliness. I also had other experiences where I discovered what it can mean to fall in love with your projection of someone, before you meet a stranger who looks incredibly like them.

What do you hope listeners take away from this single?

Perhaps a camaraderie that meeting new people in this current age certainly has its moments. And that you’re absolutely not alone if you’re feeling despondent about it.

What’s the most memorable moment in your music career so far?

Opening for Father John Misty in Barcelona with our last band NO, one of those perfect shows where partway through, the venue lighting guy felt inspired to take over the board and just made it extra special for everyone.

Die Doom Metal-Band TEMPLE WITCH hat einen Labeldeal bei Wormholedeath Records unterschrieben. Im Zuge dessen werden die US-Amerikaner aus Ohio ihr neues Album “Ocean Thousand, Mountain Thousand” veröffentlichen.

“Das Album konfrontiert mit persönlichem Verlust, verzweifelter Verwirrung und Einsamkeit, und – was vielleicht am wichtigsten ist – das Album handelt von Veränderungen und dem daraus resultierenden Wachstum”, erklärt die Band.

“Ocean Thousand, Mountain Thousand” ist nach “Hand in Hand with Chaos” (2021) das zweite Album der 2020 gegründeten Band und wird am 30. August 2024 erscheinen. Vorab gibt es nach den Tracks “Knew It Once“, “Motion” und dem Opener “Ocean Thousand” nun auch den Song “This Too Shall Pass” zu hören.

Swedish post-punk outfit Then Comes Silence has kicked off a string of European tour dates announced for 2024 in support of their seventh album ‘Trickery’, released earlier this year via Metropolis Records. Not long ago, the band wrapped up a successful North American tour is currently touring North America.

The band presents one of their favourite songs from this album – ‘Ghost House’, which features back vocals by Emma Nylén (Emmon). This is a meticulously-crafted song laced with raw passion, where every echoing synth line brings us closer to the heart of their musical dominion. This also happens to be the final song on the album.

Formed in Stockholm in 2012, Then Comes Silence is made up of frontman Alex Svenson, drummer Jonas Fransson and guitarist Hugo Zombie (Los Carniceros del Norte), their name inspired by frequent touring with A Place To Bury Strangers and an attraction to horror and the occult.

Following up their 2022 album ‘Hunger’, released via Nexilis Records / Schubert Music (Europe) and Metropolis Records (North America), ‘Trickery’ captures the heart and essence of alternative rock, along with electronic elements. But it is also a salute to punk music, to which Then Comes Silence traces their roots.

With 13 lush and cavernous tracks on offer, this record features guest appearances by Gözde Duzer of Aux Animaux, Emma Nylén (Emmon), Jörgen Wall of Whale, Thåström and Dusty Gannon of Vision Video.

Recorded by Jörgen Wall (Jay-Jay Johanson, The Hellacopters) over three days at Stockholm’s Kapsylen Studio and mixed by Tom van Heesch (Rammstein, Apocalyptica, Backyard Babies), this album was mastered by Svante Forsbäck / Chartmakers (Rammstein, Amaranthe, Ville Valo, The Rasmus, Apocalyptica). Earlier, Then Comes Silence shared the singles ‘Like a Hammer’, ‘Ride or Die’, and focus track ‘Stay Strange’.

This album celebrates friendship, unity and the feeling of belonging to a group, a tribe. Being a part of the goth and post-punk community is, according to the band, a great privilege. After being on the road and meeting people from the music scene for so many years, the band have experienced a caring and welcoming community. Old and young. Some with a similar background and some just for the love of the music and the culture that comes with the lifestyle.  

After debuting with their eponymous album in 2012, Then Comes Silence put out two more albums before releasing ‘Blood’ via Nuclear Blast in 2016. Their subsequent ‘Machine’ album was jointly released via Oblivion / SPV and Metropolis Records in 2020.

Then Comes Silence has toured and performed with The Fields of the Nephilim, The Chameleons, A Place To Bury Strangers, The Bellwether Syndicate and Vision Video, as well as playing Wave Gotik Treffen, M’era Luna, Amphi Festival, Castle Party and W-Festival.

The ‘Trickery’ album is out now, available on vinyl, CD and digitally everywhere, including Apple Music, Spotify and Bandcamp.

Die Deathgrind-Band K.Y.M.I. hat mit “Raatelija” eine erste Single ihres kommenden Albums “Liha” veröffentlicht. Der Song erzählt die Geschichte eines Vaters, der unter einem ständigen Schlafmangel leidet. Die wenigen Morgen, an denen es möglich wäre zu schlafen, werden immer wieder von der unbarmherzigen Hauskatze unterbrochen, die ihr Herrchen mit ihrem Hunger nach Futter aufweckt.

In an existence inevitably fleeting, the hope of leaving behind a legacy often clashes with the realization that, once we depart, the endurance of our name may not matter. This existential pondering forms the crux of “Into Oblivion,” the latest offering from the darkwave project NECRØ. Evoking the timeless resonance of Percy Bysshe Shelley’s “Ozymandias,” the track delves into the futility of human pride and the inexorable erasure of our grandest endeavors. The inscription on the pedestal, boasting of Ozymandias’s power, is rendered tragically ironic as all that remains of his legacy is a decaying monument swallowed by the sands of time. In our simultaneous desire to live forever and our need to escape existential dread, we seek moments of oblivion—sometimes carnal, sometimes chemical. Yet, true oblivion is inevitable. Through its brooding melodies and melancholic lyrics, “Into Oblivion” invites listeners to reflect on mortality and the transient nature of life, questioning the value we place on legacy and remembrance in a world where time eventually erases all traces of our existence.

“Into Oblivion approaches the idea of the majestic hope that we will peak and achieve something unique to be remembered while simultaneously being swallowed by the urge to be forgotten,” the band elucidates. “As we wander past countless days of repetition, we strive to find solace and obliterate the awareness that the seasons will pass, our oasis of memories will dry, and our souls will fade away into oblivion.”

NECRØ emerges as the latest venture from João Vairinhos, the Portuguese musician renowned for his solo exploits and collaborations with luminaries like Hélio Morais, Ricardo Remédio, and bands such as Wildnorthe and LÖBO. In this incarnation, Vairinhos joins forces with Sara Inglês, the enigmatic vocalist and keyboardist from Wildnorthe. Inglês’s voice, frosty yet seductively warm, paradoxically haunts and comforts, merging seamlessly with the song’s somber rhythms and melodies that rise from a sordid, atmospheric depth. This blend of cold and sultry crafts a shadowy serenade that simultaneously chills and intrigues.

Immersed in the spectral realm of NECRØ, one discovers an eerie fusion of creative vigor akin to that of Boy Harsher and Perturbator, interwoven with haunting vocal tones reminiscent of Zanias and Ladytron’s Marnie. Die Folk / Nu Metal-Band ARKA’N ASRAFOKOR musste die Veröffentlichung ihres Albums “Dzikkuh” mehrfach verschieben: Statt am 21. Juni erschien die Platte am 19. Juli 2024. Zuvor wurde der Termin bereits vom 24. Mai nach hinten verlegt. Dafür entschädigt die Formation die Wartezeit nun mit einem neuen Musikvideo: “Final Tournament” bei YouTube.

Noch im April 2024 teilte die Gruppe einen neuen Song samt Lyric-Video: “The Truth” bei YouTube.

Das Stück folgte auf den Vorab-Track “Angry God Of Earth” bei YouTube. Entnommen ist die Nummer dem kommenden Album “Dzikkuh”, das via Reigning Phoenix Music erscheinen wird.

Auch der Track “Walk With Us” steht via YouTube in Bild und Ton bereit. Die Formation erklärt:

Das Albumcover von „Moments To Remain“ zeigt dabei erneut das Mädchen, das auf „The Uncertain Light“ wiedergeboren wurde. Jetzt ist sie jedoch bereits erwachsen, sitzt vor einem See und denkt über das Leben nach. Das ganze Album basiert auf dem Konzept, einen ganzen Tag Revue passieren zu lassen und über bestimmte Themen nachzudenken, während man am Wasser sitzt.

Einen Auszug daraus gibt es nun in Form des Clips “Agonizing Slumber” bei YouTube. Das Musikvideo “Under Friendly Fire” steht ebenfalls auf der Videoplattform bereit.

“Moments To Remain” wurde von Dennis Köhne produziert und ist am 19. Juli 2024 via Massacre Records erschienen. Vorab gab es ein Lyric-Video zum Titeltrack.

“Der Titelsong beschäftigt sich mit dem Thema Gedächtnisverlust und wie wichtig und schön Erinnerungen sind, aber auch mit den Momenten im Leben, an die man sich vielleicht nicht sofort erinnert. Mit einem kurzen Intro und Outro im Song versetzen wir den Hörer in die Szenerie vom Albumcover, nämlich den See der Erinnerungen”, erklärt Sängerin Jessica Nicole Kork.

Als Hommage an die durchschnittliche Länge eines Popsongs symbolisiere der Titel die Frage nach dem Warum der eigenen Kreativität, die Kunst des Abschaltens in diesen Zeiten und den unvergesslichen Genuss eines flüchtigen Moments. Die Black Metal-Band GAEREA hat mit “Coma” ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist das vierte Album der Portugiesen aus Porto und wird am 25. Oktober 2024 via Season of Mist erscheinen.

Restless nights are like a bad jazz band—too much noise and no rhythm. When you’re lonely and lustful, the bed feels like a barren wasteland, and sleep is as elusive as a dame in a red dress. The ceiling fan spins shadows, while your thoughts dance a jittery jig between desire and despair. It’s a sleepless symphony of sighs, punctuated by the mocking tick-tock of the clock, reminding you that dawn is still a long way off.

Rome’s Big Mountain County is back with a sultry new single about this condition: Follow Me. The track teases the steamy and electrifying psych-sex-rock vibes of their forthcoming album.

Big Mountain County burst onto the scene in Rome back in 2013, a union of four southern boys—two from Mount Etna’s slopes, two from the Adriatic Coast. They bonded over a shared passion for The Stooges, MC5, The Velvet Underground, and Joe Spencer, leading to a raw, raucous 7-inch record. This debut ignited an electrifying Eastern European tour, blazing through Hungary, Serbia, Croatia, and Bosnia-Herzegovina. They soon expanded their sound, diving into the European Neopsychedelic wave, and spent the next years solidifying their status in the continental live circuit.

After showcasing their most recent EP, Klaus, at the New Colossus Festival in New York and SXSW in Austin, the band took a year-long studio hiatus. During this break, they sharpened a distinctive sound, blending raw garage rock and neopsychedelia with electroclash, Krautrock, and disco.

“It reveals a yet unexplored dimension of BMC, featuring a slow and relentless electronic beat with a primitive edge. It weaves together ethereal synthetic textures and edgy, strident guitars to lay down a foundation for deep, alluring vocals, beckoning listeners to venture into the wild side, a dark paradise of artificial wonders and pleasures where the night is a point of no return.”

The intriguing video, directed by Alessandro Montemgno, captures the jittery journey of a distracted (and lustful) mind. Flashes flicker faster and faster as the song sizzles on. It’s as fascinating as watching a cat chase its own tail—both amusing and maddening in equal measure.

Big Mountain County burst onto the scene with two LPs—Breaking Sound (Gas Vintage Records, 2015) and Somewhere Else (Porto Records, 2020)—plus a live album. They tore through Europe and the UK, lighting up stages at Sziget Festival, Binic Folk Blues Festival, and opening for Cloud Nothings’ Italian tour in 2019. In 2023, they stormed the US, electrifying SXSW and sharing stages with Osees and Os Mutantes. By the time they returned to Italy, Big Mountain County had secured summer openings for Brian Jonestown Massacre and La Femme. That year’s EP Klaus marked a bold new shift, diving into a more dance-driven and electronic sound. It featured collaborations with electronic psych producer and LEVITATION DJ in residence Al Lover, along with the distinguished Roman producer Hugo Sanchez.

Den harten Kern erschüttert so schnell nichts: Nach „Coffinized“ (2021) zum Trio geschrumpft, bewahren sich THE ABSENCE weiterhin ihre Essenz. Vielleicht trägt Album Nummer sechs auch deshalb den eigenen Namen, weil man sich allen notgedrungenen Veränderungen zum Trotz treu bleibt. Auch 2024 ist die Formation wohl die schwedischste aller us-amerikanischen Metal-Bands.

Göteborg-Sound und doppelläufige Leads sind fester Bestandteil des oft treibenden, immer eingängigen Melodic Death Metals, der eben deshalb so solide ausfällt, weil sich THE ABSENCE große Schnörkel sparen. Stattdessen drängen die drei Musiker mit Schwung nach vorne, opfern die Härte nicht auf dem Altar der Zugänglichkeit. „Vagrant Death“ oder das schmissige „The Silent Eye“ behalten so ihren Biss, dem Fronter Jamie Stewart eine entsprechend kratzige-raue Note hinzuaddiert.

Routiniert und standhaft vereinen THE ABSENCE auch auf ihrem selbstbetiteltem Werk alle klassischen Melodeath-Tugenden
Im Vergleich zum direkten Vorgänger liegt das Augenmerk wieder ein kleines bisschen mehr auf Melodie, ohne allerdings die enorm harmonischen Arrangements von „Enemy Unbound“ (2010) zu kopieren. Zu Atem kommen wir deshalb ausschließlich während des in sich gekehrten Instrumentals „Surface Of A Dead World“, wobei die folgenden „Grieving Winds“ und „Fleshwalker“ zumindest ein paar schöne Leadgitarren im klassischen IN FLAMES-Stil aus dem Ärmel schütteln. Die Akustikgitarre in Letztgenanntem ist zwar nur ein dezentes Stilmittel, trägt jedoch ihr Übriges zur vertraut skandinavischen Atmosphäre bei.

Im THE ABSENCE-Universum ist das selbstredend nichts Neues, zeigt uns im sechsten Anlauf dafür ein weiteres Mal, wie sehr die Band die Spielregeln des Genres in sich aufgesogen hat. Routiniert und dabei sich selbst nicht leugnend bringt das selbstbetitelte Werk somit genau das erneut auf den Punkt, was wir im Verlauf der letzten zwei Dekaden Bandhistorie so zu schätzen gelernt haben. Auch dank des unerschütterlichen harten Kerns: Standhaft und mit glühendem Eifer vereint „The Absence“ exakt jene Tugenden des klassischen Melodeaths, die schon in den Neunzigern den Rahmen der Spielrichtung abgesteckt haben.

EREB ALTOR haben mit einem Video zu “Skogsrået” einen weiteren neuen Track geteilt und erklärt den Titel:

Der Song ist von alten schwedischen Volksweisen inspiriert Im Text geht es um die Sage „Skogrået“ oder „Skogsfrun“: eine weibliches Wesen, das in den Wäldern herrscht. Manchmal bringt sie die Menschen dazu, sich zu verirren. Doch Skogsrået ist keine böse Kreatur, sie kann auch Menschen in Not helfen.

Bereits im Juni hatte die Band mit “Midvinter” einen neuen Song veröffentlicht.   Der Track entstand im Studio Apocalypse, wo die Band vor kurzem an einem neuen Album arbeitete. Die neue EREB ALTOR-Platte, der Nachfolger des 2022er Albums “Vargtimman”  soll im Januar 2025 erscheinen.

Insgesamt wollen die Schweden drei Singles veröffentlichen, bevor das neue Album erscheint. Sie wurden ebenfalls bei den aktuellen Aufnehmen eingespielt.

Das neue IN EXTREMO-Album
“Wolkenschieben” haben IN EXTREMO ihr neues Album betitelt, das 13. Studioalbum der Mittelalterrock-Band erscheint am 6. September 2024 via Universal Music. Nun kann man sich einen Videoclip zum Titeltrack “Wolkenschieber” ansehen.

Die “Wolkenschieber”-Tour startet Mitte November 2024, mit dabei sind KORPIKLAANI und RAUHBEIN.

ZEAL & ARDOR haben ihrer neuen Single wohl auch das beste Motto dieses Sommertags getroffen: Der neue Track heißt “Hide In The Shade”, ein Video gibt’s bei YouTube. Der Track stammt vom neuen Album “Greif”, das am 23. August 2024 erscheint.

„Wir wären nachlässig, würden wir keinen Song veröffentlichen, der so klingt wie der Sound, für den wir bekannt sind“, erklärt die Band. „Das tun wir mit „Hide In Shade“. Where the sun shows all, we hide in shade. Stay strange.”

Im Juni stellte Manuel Gagneux mit einem Video zu “Fend You Off” die zweite Single vor.

„Mit ‚Fend You Off’ kommt eine weitere Farbe auf die Leinwand“, sagt Bandleader Manuel Gagneux. „Inzwischen dürfte es offensichtlich sein, dass wir neue Seiten von uns zeigen. Das ist unser innerer Kern – ehrlich und verletzlich. Wir hoffen, es gefällt euch. Stay strange.”

Im Mai erschien “Clawing Out” eine zweite neue Single als Stream. Das Stück folgt auf den Song “To My Ilk”: Einen Visualizer-Clip kann man sich bei YouTube ansehen. Es handelt sich dabei um die erste Auskopplung aus “Greif”.

Zuvor teilte die Band Ende 2022 die beiden Singles “Firewake” sowie “Cinq”. Das letzte Album “Zeal & Ardor” erschien ebenfalls im Jahr 2022.

“”Bloodstains” ist ein Song über den Übergang”, sagt Sängerin und Transfrau Meadow Wyand. “Es geht um das Coming-out, das Blut, das dabei vergossen wird, und die Narben, die es hinterlässt. Es geht um das Gefühl, eine neue Haut zu tragen, während jeder um einen herum sein totes Ich sieht.

Zuvor hat die Band nach “Goetia” mit “Hill of Swords” eine zweite Vorab-Single des Albums “Diana’s Day” veröffentlicht.

“”Hill of Swords” wurde als Antwort auf Kentaro Miuras Tod geschrieben”, sagt Sängerin Meadow Wyand. “Er bezieht sich auf den Ort in seinem Dark-Fantasy-Meisterwerk “Berserk”, wo die Gräber der Opfer durch Schwerter statt durch Grabsteine gekennzeichnet sind. Im Laufe der Entwicklung wurde der Song zu einer Hymne für diejenigen, die wir während der Pandemie verloren haben, sowie für die unsichtbaren Millionen, die an chronischen Behinderungen leiden.”

“Diana’s Day” ist nach “Wings of a Dying Crow” (2017) das zweite Album der US-Amerikaner aus Rochester. Die Sängerin, Bassistin und geoutete Transfrau Meadow Wyand reflektiert in den Songs queere Traumata und Trotz, spricht aber auch über existenzielle Verzweiflung und spirituelle Weissagung. Weitere Band-Mitglieder sind Gitarrist Dave Milburn und Drummer Brady Mentz.

“Diana’s Day” wurde von Casey Ahrens-Cavallo und Tom Gerwitz produziert und wird am 1. August 2024 via Fiadh Productions erscheinen.

FÏX8:SËD8 drop the remastered track ‘The Needle’ as the next single taken from the forthcoming reissue of the German dark electro act’s first two albums “humanophobia:dormicum”.

The release of the artbook that contains both full-lengths and includes three bonus tracks, one of which has previously not been published, has been scheduled for September 6, 2024.

Primal Scream, those suave Scottish alternative rock provocateurs, are set to release their first album in eight years, Come Ahead, slated for release on November 8 via BMG. Today, they released the album’s lead single, Love Insurrection, a funky, string-soaked dance number. It smacks of a gritty Isaac Hayes, Bobby Womack, or Curtis Mayfield track from a dust-covered ’70s film, with zipping strings and darting woodwinds delivering the soulful punch we crave in these troubled times.

“I’m very excited about this album in a way that you would be making your first record,” says Bobby Gillespie. “If there was an overall theme to Come Ahead it might be one of conflict, whether inner or outer. The title is a Glaswegian term. If someone threatens to fight you, you say, ‘come ahead!’ It’s redolent of the indomitable spirit of the Glaswegian, and the album itself shares that aggressive attitude and confidence.”

Love Insurrection is packed with deep, groove-laden basslines and funk-inspired guitars, and carries a cosmic undertone. The lyrics are both a warning and a beacon of hope in these uncertain times. They ponder if society should feed, house, and protect the hungry from market forces, question wealth distribution, and call for dropping divisive symbols and anger, urging unity and compassion instead. We know Primal Scream’s stance on hippies, but psychedelic funk is still alive and kicking. Curtis Mayfield would approve…albeit with a big “I told you so.”

The forthcoming new Primal Scream album, Come Ahead, produced by the ever-brilliant David Holmes (who also helmed 2013’s More Light) alongside Gillespie and Andrew Innes, promises to deliver some of the band’s most personal songwriting to date. Sessions spanned Belfast, London, and Los Angeles, a geographic spread that reflects the album’s broad emotional and sonic range.

The creative process began in 2022, during a dark period when Gillespie feared Primal Scream might never make another album. For the first time in years, the lyrics took precedence, marking a significant shift in their creative approach. “The story came first. Bobby wrote alone, using an acoustic guitar. Ideas flowed fast, in long bursts of inspiration,” Gillespie reveals. This fresh method, coupled with David Holmes’ guidance, brought a new dimension to the band’s sound.

The album cover, designed by artist Jim Lambie, features a poignant photograph of Bobby’s late father, Robert Gillespie Sr., adding a deeply personal touch to the project.

“There is a message of hope in the record,” says Gillespie, “but it’s tempered with an acceptance of the worst side of human nature.”

“Les Couleurs D’Une Fièvre” is the debut album by the French Flagorne-duo. The album -which is available in a very artistic digipak,  features 5 hard cuts mixing Industrial elements and Dark-Ambient moods. The atmosphere leaves an apocalyptic impression, which is reinforced by the spooky, French, vocals. Some passages are driven by hard, driving Industrial rhythms. This is a solid starting album.
