Die Melodic Metal-Band BLACK SUN meldet sich mit einem neuen Song zurück: Das Video “Rise” kann man sich bei YouTube ansehen. Der Track ist wie “Drown In Sin” ein Vorgeschmack auf das kommende selbstbetitelte Studioalbum “Black Sun”, das am 6. September 2024 erscheinen wird.

Auch die Single “Slay The Queen” kann man als Video bei YouTube sehen. Es ist der erste Track in neuer Besetzung, wie die ecuadorianisch-finnische Formation erklärt – neben Produzent und Gitarrist Nino Laurenne (THUNDERSTONE) ist auch Sängerin Netta Laurenne neu hinzugestoßen:

“Nachdem ich mit den Jungs als Produzent gearbeitet hatte, wurden wir richtig gute Freunde, was mich schließlich dazu brachte, Gitarrist in der Band zu werden. Der Beitritt zu Black Sun hat mich wirklich dazu gebracht, wieder in einer Band zu spielen, und ich kann es kaum erwarten, mit Santiago, Nicolas und Christopher auf die Bühne zu gehen. Und mit Netta am Gesang wird es der größte Tritt in den Hintern sein!”

Her Absence Fill The World, the Berlin-based Neue Türkische Welle band returns “Following Ghosts,” the second single from their forthcoming album, Unknown Territories. Nachdem die früheren Veranstalter des WITH FULL FORCE FESTIVALS in diesem Jahr mit einem neuen Festival namens FULL REWIND in Dresden im Schlachthof ihr Comeback eingeläutet haben, kehren Sie nun an den Flugplatz Roitzschjora zurück, wo das WITH FULL FORCE von 1999 bis 2016 stattgefunden hat.

Das FULL REWIND 2024 findet vom 2. bis 4. August statt. Geplant sind zwei Bühnen, ein zu Fuß erreichbares Campinggelände, die Veranstalter versprechen außerdem faire Preise – und die legendäre Erdbeer-Bowle.

Eine Änderung im Line-up wurde zudem im Juli angekündigt: SICK OF IT ALL mussten krankheitsbedingt ihre Teilnahme absagen, als Ersatz wurden LIONHEART verpflichtet. Außerdem komplettieren DISBELIEF und BELPHEGOR das Line-up der “Knüppelnacht”.

Seit April im Programm sind BLOOD COMMAND, MASSACRE sowie CRYPTOPSY. SPIRITWORLD haben ihre Teilnahme dagegen abgesagt.

Zuvor bestätigte man außerdem DIE APOKALYPTISCHEN REITER, SLOPE, CROWNSHIFT, MOTIONLESS IN WHITE, H2O, IGNITE sowie die US-Thrash-Metal-Band TESTAMENT.

In der zweiten Bandwelle kündigten die Organisatoren zuletzt TERROR, LIFE OF AGONY, ELSTERGLANZ, EMMURE, EKTOMORF, RISE OF THE NORTHSTAR, ROTTING CHRIST, PRO-PAIN, EXCREMENTORY GRINDFUCKERS, TRAGEDY, STESY und DRILL STAR AUTOPSY an.

Die ersten Namen der Bands für das FULL REWIND 2024 hat man nun Mitte Oktober 2023 verraten: Das Billing führen AMON AMARTH als erster Headliner an. Außerdem mit dabei sind HATEBREED, SICK OF IT ALL, EMIL BULLS, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, BODYSNATCHER und MILKING THE GOATMACHINE.

Tickets gibt es zum Early-Bird-Preis von 129,-€ auf der offiziellen Festival-Website. Ein zusätzliches Parkticket schlägt dabei mit 35,-€ zu Buche.

Hinter dem FULL REWIND FESTIVAL stecken die Veranstalter des WITH FULL FORCE, die bis ins Jahr 2018 für das Event verantwortlichen waren. 2018 zogen sich Roland “Bogo” Ritter, Sven Borges und Mike Schorler zurück. Das ehemalige WITH FULL FORCE heißt seitdem FULL FORCE  und findet im Juni in Ferropolis zwischen Leipzig und Berlin statt, 2024 vom 21. bis 23. Juni 2024.

Die Black Metal-Band DIABLATION hat mit “Irrévérence” ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist nach “Allégeance” (2021) und “Par le feu” (2023) das dritte Album der Franzosen und soll auch das letzte Album der Band sein.

In The Midnight Sun geht es um viele verschiedene Dinge, aber am wichtigsten ist, dass wir zu dem zurückkehren, was wir wirklich sind. Es war der erste Song, den wir schrieben, als wir uns endlich hinsetzten, um eine LP zu machen, und ich denke, man kann die tiefe Entschlossenheit in unseren Seelen hören, wenn man ihn sich anhört.”

Long Island City, once a gritty industrial enclave in Queens, NYC, has succumbed to the steamroller of gentrification. High-rises sprout like weeds where factories once stood. The charm of the old neighbourhood, with its dusty warehouses and smoky bars, is swiftly being swallowed by a sea of sleek condos and chic cafés. The blue-collar backbone of the area has been bent, broken, and replaced by polished professionals and pricey boutiques. It’s a cityscape in flux, where the echoes of hard labour are drowned out by the hum of new money and newer pop-ups.

New York City artist Joe Geni drops his new single, City Where The Sky Subsides, a high-energy track with sharp lyrics and cinematic flair.  Bursting with operatic grandeur, Geni’s vocals soar over a vivid picture, blending poignant themes with powerful melodies. It’s a journey through the urban jungle, where every note is a step deeper into his lyrical labyrinth.

Originally from Evanston, Illinois, Joe Geni has spent most of his adult life in the Big Apple, with Long Island City being his primary haunt. By day, he worked various gigs around the United Nations, but by night, he crafted soundtracks for the Anthropocene. Geni’s music aims to capture the elusive feeling of searching for home in a world that’s always on the move.

His voice is both distinctive and unforgettable—a blistering high tenor with a 3.5-octave range. Joe Geni has a knack for translating complex ideas into compelling lyrics. He delves into the tangled relationship between humanity and the environment, channeling these reflections into his sound. His songs explore international affairs, climate change, demography, transportation, and urban infrastructure. Yet, Geni doesn’t stop there; he also touches on the broader human experience, singing about love, regret, modern art, and even dinosaurs.

City Where The Sky Subsides gives a glimpse into Joe Geni’s third album, Cities Built Upon Cities. Geni’s tracks reveal a neighbourhood haunted by its industrial past, and the occupants who have faded away. “‘City Where The Sky Subsides is a move away from the more electronic sound of many of my other tunes in favor of a straight floor-it-on-the-highway anthemic rock song (amusing since I was quarantined during the recording and the guitar was recorded on a 1/10w amp that fits on a bookshelf),” says Geni. “This single’s premise is simple: a man disappointed that a promising date got rained out, leaving him “gazing out a double pane stained by exploding rain until the sky subsides.” If you’ve ever ended up stuck inside waiting for the weather to change, this one’s for you.”

Cities Built Upon Cities by Joe Geni

Since emerging on the scene with his 2019 debut album After Wandering Empire, Geni released his Doggerland album in 2021. This album was produced, mixed and mastered in Brooklyn by Charlie Nieland (Debbie Harry, Rufus Wainwright, Blondie, Scissor Sisters).

Earlier this year, Joe Geni released City of Energy, which will also appear on the new album. This pop-meets-dancehall-inspired track is an ode to New Yorkers, who exert enormous efforts to pursue their dreams with no guarantee of reaching them. He explains, “This song is about searching for love in a city that feeds on energy, both from its humans and its electrical grid. The city is hungry. The infrastructure is changing. CEMETERY SKYLINE stellen ihr Debütalbum “Nordic Gothic” mit einem weiteren Song vor und haben nun auch zum Track “Behind The Lie” einen Clip gedreht. Zudem gibt es “Torn Away” als Single via bandcamp sowie als Musikvideo bei YouTube.

Das Stück folgt auf ein Visualizer-Video zu “The Coldest Heart” sowie einen Clip zu “In Darkness”. Für Keyboarder Santeri Kallio ist der Song eine Zeitreise:

“Ich mag den Gedanken, dass die Leute die Melodie und den Vibe mit diesem Song fühlen. Es bringt mich zurück in eine Gothic-Disco in Düsseldorf im Jahr ’96. Es gibt viel Rauch, viele Lichter, gute Melodien, einen schönen und stetigen Beat.”

Als erstes Lebenszeichen teilten die All-Star-Band ein Video zu “Violent Storm“. Zum Line-up der Gothic Metal-Band gehören:

Das Debütalbum “Nordic Gothic” soll am 11. Oktober 2024 via Century Media auf CD, Vinyl sowie digital veröffentlicht werden. Die Band verspricht “skandinavischen Gothicmetal”:

“Laut Wettervorhersage zieht ein nordischer Gothic-Sturm auf”, sagt Markus Vanhala. “Der Song ist inspiriert nächtlichen, leeren Straßen von Goth-emburg und ihren Geschichten von Einsamkeit und Verlorenheit, die sich in der einzigartigen Stimmung des skandinavischen Gothicmetal widerspiegeln.”

Mikael Stanne fügt hinzu: “Es geht um aufgestaute Frustration, das Gefühl der Hilflosigkeit und wie beides überhand nehmen kann.”

Erstmals live auftreten werden CEMETERY SKYLINE auf dem John Smith Rock Festival in Laukaa, Finnland vom 18. bis 20. August 2024.

Warren Defever’s cherished and long-standing ethereal darkwave project, His Name Is Alive, has a storied history with 4AD. To honor the band’s early works, 4AD proudly presents a strictly limited deluxe 6xLP, 77-track box set titled How Ghosts Affect Relationships: 1990-1993. This collector’s item, available September 27, is exclusive to the 4AD webstore and Bandcamp.

This must-have collection brings together the first three His Name Is Alive albums—Livonia, Home Is In Your Head, and Mouth By Mouth.

From Livonia, Michigan, His Name Is Alive emerged as Defever’s brainchild. In the early ’90s, with vocalist Karin Oliver, they became a key part of 4AD’s lore after founder Ivo Watts-Russell was drawn to their dark, fragmented sound. Their self-released cassettes kept landing in his mailbox, each one better than the last, until he couldn’t ignore them anymore. Recently, their early tracks were reissued in the acclaimed A Silver Thread trilogy. Now, the spotlight shifts to their first three albums. Signed to 4AD in 1989, amid the rise of Throwing Muses, Pixies, and The Breeders, they fit perfectly. Their sound, echoing the gothic tones of Cocteau Twins and Dead Can Dance, possessed a unique quality, existing on the edge of reality and a subterranean realm. This otherness sparked curiosity and anchored their unpredictable, ever-changing sound.

Their debut album, Livonia, hit the scene in the summer of 1990 like a broken jigsaw puzzle. Produced by Ivo and his This Mortal Coil collaborator John Fryer, they took Warren’s recordings, disassembled them, and left them wonderfully fractured.

“They took it apart, and didn’t put it back together,” Fryer commented.

On the surface, their signing fit with the label’s ethereal lineage. But as listeners peeled away the layers, they found the 4AD sound had been reinvented, refracted through a prism. The album revealed a disturbing yet exquisite vista, a shadowy study in love and loss, delivered in a woozy, dreamlike fashion. When reissued in the US, the title track—an intense study in guitar distortion—was added, cementing it as one of the band’s finest moments.

In 1991, their second album, Home Is In Your Head, hit the streets. Recorded in Defever’s home studio and then remixed by Ivo and John, its 23 tracks fired emotions with rapid intensity. Calm moments clashed with white noise and chaos, leaving listeners enthralled by its beauty and darkness. Warren’s unique production style proved to be unmatched. Fully in their stride, they released The Dirt Eaters EP in 1992, leaning more on folk than avant-pop, even daring to include uncleared samples from Hollywood films. The result was a sound that was both bold and boundary-breaking, standing apart from anything else.

By 1993, Mouth By Mouth marked a significant shift in sound and style for His Name Is Alive. With more contributors in the mix, this was the first album where the band controlled every aspect—production, mixing, and editing. Their evolution was clear; sparsity and intrigue gave way to an adventurous exploration of sound and vision. Warren indulged his love for all kinds of music—1960s pop, dub, jazz, and noise. Embracing the surreal, His Name Is Alive carved their own lane. With Warren’s studio skills in full bloom, many consider this album a high point for the band.

Pulled from the original analogue tapes and meticulously remastered by Defever himself at Third Man Mastering, it also includes three additional LPs packed with bonus material and unreleased tracks, like The Dirt Eaters EP. Accompanying this treasure trove is a 36-page book penned by 4AD biographer Martin Aston, laying out the gripping tale of His Name Is Alive’s early days.

It also features never-before-seen photos and memorabilia, along with written pieces from Ivo Watts-Russell, Johnny Jewel, and others.

This limited edition collection, capped at 1,000 foil-stamped and numbered copies, comes in a hard slipcase box with a design by Chris Bigg, reimagined from Vaughan Oliver/v23’s original art direction. The box also includes a replica of each album’s original promotional poster and a signed print. It’s a meticulously crafted tribute to His Name Is Alive’s early days, celebrating the band’s legacy with a nod to its iconic visual style.

Derision Cult – Warning Signs.

 

Industrial metal band, DERISION CULT has announced the release of their new single & video, “Warning Signs”.  The video made it’s premiere at Glitch Mode Recordings immersive cyberpunk showcase, Tech Noir on July 20th, 2024.

“Warning Signs” is an industrial metal fast paced romp that features heavy and almost spoken word vocals thrash metal guitars, pounding cyber beats and the skittering guitar pyrotechnics of former David Bowie guitarist, Reeves Gabrels.

Lyrically, “Warning Signs” delves into our turbulent cultural climate, serving as a stark reminder of the warnings surrounding us. The gripping chorus line, “Is it getting real enough yet?” draws inspiration from a harrowing true story shared by frontman Dave McAnally’s brother, a Naval EOD officer. During a raid, a Hollywood director, witnessing the aftermath of a firefight, was shaken to his core. As a Navy SEAL carried the body of a Taliban member past the director, he chillingly remarked, “Oh, is it getting real enough yet?” This powerful moment underscores the song’s message about the peril of ignoring warnings until they become undeniable.

Jetzt legt die Gruppe mit “Through The Mist” einen weiteren Visualizer nach. Auf den üblichen Streamingdiensten findet man zudem wie bei der vorherigen Single “Suffering” eine Instrumentalversion des Songs.

Auch einen Visualizer-Clip zu “Promise Of Apocalypse” gibt es bei YouTube. Als Bonus ist auch hier auf allen gängigen Streaming-Portalen die Instrumentalfassung des Stücks verfügbar. Einen Visualizer-Clip gibt es außerdem zum Song “Blood In Their Eyes” bei YouTube. Das Stück ist ebenfalls auf allen gängigen Streaming-Portalen in einer Instrumentalfassung verfügbar.

Zum Release des Albums gab es ein Musikvideo zum Titeltrack bei YouTube.

Die Progressive Metal-Band OCEANS OF SLUMBER hat einen Labeldeal bei Season of Mist unterschrieben. Im Zuge dessen werden die Briten am 13. September 2024 ihr neues Album “Where Gods Fear To Speak” veröffentlichen. Nun hat die Band das abschließende CHRIS ISAAK-Cover “Wicked Game” veröffentlicht.

Im Juni ist mit dem Video-Clip zu “Poem Of Ecstasy” eine zweite Vorab-Single vom Album erschienen. Der Track folgte auf das Titelstück “Where Gods Fear To Speak“.

“Ich wollte schon immer mal Death Growls machen”, sagt Cammie Beverly. “”Where Gods Fear to Speak” bot die perfekte Gelegenheit. Harte Vocals mit meinen Cleansing Vocals zu mischen, spricht das Spannungsfeld zwischen Lust und Schmerz an, aber es gibt auch eine Freiheit, die damit einhergeht, meine Stimme über ihre vermeintliche Belastungsgrenze hinaus zu treiben.”

Unter dem Namen “Poem of Fire” haben OCEANS OF SLUMBER zudem ein Piano-Medley von den Tracks des kommenden Albums veröffentlicht.

Die Deathwave / Gothic / Post-Punk-Band FOURTH DOMINION hat mit “Lilim” einen Video-Clip von ihrem kommenden Albums “Diana’s Day” veröffentlicht. Einige Tage zuvor ist mit “Bloodstains” der Opener des Albums erschienen.

“”Bloodstains” ist ein Song über den Übergang”, sagt Sängerin und Transfrau Meadow Wyand. “Es geht um das Coming-out, das Blut, das dabei vergossen wird, und die Narben, die es hinterlässt. Es geht um das Gefühl, eine neue Haut zu tragen, während jeder um einen herum sein totes Ich sieht.

Zuvor hat die Band nach “Goetia” mit “Hill of Swords” eine zweite Vorab-Single des Albums “Diana’s Day” veröffentlicht.

“”Hill of Swords” wurde als Antwort auf Kentaro Miuras Tod geschrieben”, sagt Sängerin Meadow Wyand. “Er bezieht sich auf den Ort in seinem Dark-Fantasy-Meisterwerk “Berserk”, wo die Gräber der Opfer durch Schwerter statt durch Grabsteine gekennzeichnet sind. Im Laufe der Entwicklung wurde der Song zu einer Hymne für diejenigen, die wir während der Pandemie verloren haben, sowie für die unsichtbaren Millionen, die an chronischen Behinderungen leiden.”

“Diana’s Day” ist nach “Wings of a Dying Crow” (2017) das zweite Album der US-Amerikaner aus Rochester. Die Sängerin, Bassistin und geoutete Transfrau Meadow Wyand reflektiert in den Songs queere Traumata und Trotz, spricht aber auch über existenzielle Verzweiflung und spirituelle Weissagung. Weitere Band-Mitglieder sind Gitarrist Dave Milburn und Drummer Brady Mentz.

“Diana’s Day” wurde von Casey Ahrens-Cavallo und Tom Gerwitz produziert und wird am 1. August 2024 via Fiadh Productions erscheinen.

Die Death Metal-Band HUSQWARNAH hat einen Labeldeal bei Time To Kill Records unterschrieben. Im Zuge dessen werden die Italiener aus Monza ihr neues Album “Purification Through Sacrifice” veröffentlichen. Das nach “Front: Toward Enemy” (2021) zweite Album der Band wird am 16. WITHIN THE RUINS haben für 23. August 2024 ihr neues Album “Phenomena II” angekündigt. Darauf enthalten ist auch die erste Vorab-Single “Castle In The Sky”, zu der die Progressive Deathcore-Band ein Musikvideo produziert hat. Nun hat die Band mit dem Video zu “The Last Son” eine zweite Vorab-Single veröffentlicht.

Warum die Formation einen Nachfolger ihres “Phenomena”-Albums (2014) geschrieben hat, erklärt Gitarrist Joe Cocchi:

“Wir hatten eine Handvoll Songs geschrieben und waren auf der Suche nach Inspiration. Wir wollten das zehnjährige Jubiläum von ‘Phenomena’ feiern, weil es ein Höhepunkt unserer Karriere war. Ich schrieb ein Demo, das Steve an ‘Phenomena’ erinnerte. Es war also seine Idee, ‘Phenomena II’ zu machen. Die Stile haben sich wirklich angeglichen, was die einzigartigen Gitarreneffekte und die Themen angeht, bei denen jeder Track eine Geschichte aus der Sicht einer Comicfigur erzählt.”

Mit “殭屍復活 (Horrendous Corpse Resurrection)”  stellen RIPPED TO SHREDS einen weiteren Song ihres kommenden Albums vor. Die neue Platte heißt “Sanshi” und erscheint am 27. September 2024 via Relapse Records.

Ende Juli teilte die Band ein Video zu “Perverting The Funeral Rites, Stripping For The Dead”, Frontmann Andrew Lee ordnet den Song ein:

„Wir wollten unser bislang morbidestes Material angemessen präsentieren. Perverting…’ zeigt unseren neuen Ansatz mit ständigen Gesangs- und Solo-Wechseln. Das Video drehten wir in Taiwan mit einem echten daoistischen Priester, der Song erzählt eine Geschichte.“

Die Alternative / Doom Metal-Band BLACK MOON MOTHER hat mit “Watch It Burn” eine neue Single mitsamt Video-Clip veröffentlicht. Der Song erforscht die Gefahren der Apathie in der grausamen Welt von heute und ehrt diejenigen, die zu Unrecht verfolgt wurden. Geschrieben wurde der Song bereits im Jahr 2020, kurz nachdem George Floyd von einem korrupten Polizeibeamten ermordet wurde.

“Watch It Burn” wurde gemeinsam mit Don Bermudez aufgenommen und gemixt. Zuvor haben die US-Amerikaner aus Nashville u.a. ihr Debütalbum “Illusions Under the Sun” (2020) veröffentlicht.
