Vamberator, that “magical funky hybrid” from Bath, England, is stirring up the season with their third single and new video, Creature in My House, just in time for Halloween. With their debut album, Age of Loneliness, set to drop on November 1st via Unifaun Productions, the band pulls no punches in delivering something off-kilter and wonderfully weird.

Formed by Shelleyan Orphan survivors Jemaur Tayle and Boris Williams (of The Cure), Age of Loneliness features a lineup of longtime collaborators and friends, including Charlie Jones (Goldfrapp, The Cult, Siouxsie) on electric and acoustic bass and Jo Nye on backing vocals. Notably, the song features Inky Crawley, daughter of their late bandmate Caroline Crawley, lending her own eerie charm.

Creature in My House is a delightfully strange brew—a fusion of English pantomime, ‘70s glam, and art-pop influences. There’s Bowie in the glittered strut, Brian Eno and Roxy Music in the wild experimentation, and Fripp’s guitar magic stitched through Jem Tayle’s fuzzed-out noodling. Nursery-rhyme lyrics twist around slurping mouth noises and a brass explosion from Joe Bentley, Joe Northwood, and Pete Johnson. The track careens to a madcap conclusion, like a haunted wardrobe teetering on a cliff’s edge, brimming with finger poppets. Vamberator takes their playful spook seriously, progressing far beyond their chamber pop past.

“Pounding footsteps, heavy breathing! I slammed the door shut and closed a chapter on my fear, or so I thought…”says Tayle. “I was not alone. Slumped in the semi darkness a shape like Halloween moaned. The Creature was in My house! It sat and stared and watched me as the fear drip dripped. And as My heart crawled across the floor, ashamed, I tried to hide. What is it and why me? Is it ghost, is it fiend, unkempt unclean, this Creature?”

The charming video for Creature In My House unfolds like a children’s ghost tale, steeped in the eerie nostalgia of old British television. It comes alive through the whimsical illustrations, puppetry, and stop-motion animation of Louis Netter. Jem and Boris take center stage, joined by Donkey, the former Shelleyan Orphan mascot, creating a world that feels both playful and haunted. Their own homespun footage slips into the mix, with Helen Drinkwater and Emer Heavey behind the camera, adding a DIY charm. There’s a raw, indie authenticity that grounds the otherworldly feel, giving the production a touch of handcrafted magic.

Boris Williams, Caroline Crawley’s longtime partner and a drumming dynamo, made his mark playing with Thompson Twins and Kim Wilde. He joined The Cure in 1984. Williams’s potent percussion propelled the band’s sound, leaving an indelible imprint on acclaimed albums like The Head on the Door, Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Disintegration, and Wish. His bold and brilliant beats became the backbone of The Cure’s signature style.

Caroline Crawley tragically passed after a lengthy illness in 2016. In the aftermath of her death, Tayle plucked out the heart of Shelleyan Orphan and joined forces with Boris Williams on Vamberator.

“After Caroline’s passing, I had been offered the chance to make a solo album,” says Tayle. “I had been writing on and off without a focus and not having someone to bounce off was new to me. Boris is family, and we have played together with Shelleyan Orphan live and in the studio on and off for years, so it felt very natural for us to work on this together. I am extremely fortunate to have a drummer of his calibre pounding out the rhythms on this album.”

Die musikalisch hochwertige Ulknudel DEVIN TOWNSEND liebte ich schon zu Zeiten von Strapping Young Lad. Alles was danach kam toppte das Ganze aber noch mal. Es traf nicht immer meinen Geschmack, egal ob als DEVIN TOWNSEND, als Devin Townsend Band oder Devin Townsend Project, aber es war immer musikalisch hochwertvoll und interessant.

Devins Definition eines Powernerds muss ich hier eben unbedingt teilen:
POWERNERD – Substantiv

1. – Eine Person jeglichen Geschlechts, die durch Hartnäckigkeit und Ausdauer etwas, was die Gesellschaft als „Schwäche“ ansehen mag, in eine Supermacht verwandelt hat.
2. – Ein verdammt cooler Typ.
3. – Du.

Die 11 Songs seines aktuellen Albums hat er unter der selbst auferlegten Vorgabe geschrieben, nicht zu viel drüber nachzudenken. Und das in 11 Tagen.
Er selbst hat sich dazu gedacht:
“I thought, ‘I’ve spent so much time overthinking every aspect of my work – what would happen if I didn’t?”

Etwas ziemlich geiles, wenn ich das mal vorwegnehmen darf.
Im Titeltrack (mit gesanglicher Unterstützung von Jamie Jasta) geht es schon mal wesentlich härter zu, als ich es von den letzten Scheiben gewohnt war. Und grob zieht sich das dann so durch die Platte. Es gibt natürlich auch softere Songs, die aber immer noch kräftig rocken. Die Spitze seiner kranken Kreativität ist aber der letzte Songs des Albums, „Ruby Quaker“. Er beginnt als Folksong und geht dann über Rock bis in den extremen Metal. Und er ist eine weitere Liebeserklärung von Devin an Kaffee, so wie er mit Ziltoid dem Thema Kaffee zumindest ansatzweise schon auf einem ganzen Album gehuldigt hat.

„PowerNerd“ ist der Auftakt zu einer Trilogie, die die gesamt Bandbreite Herrn Townsends repräsentieren soll. Das aktuelle Album soll durch den bereits aufgenommenen Nachfolger „The Moth“, selbst beschrieben als “orchestral, over-the-top, dark and uncomfortable” und die ‘“alien weirdness” des finalen „Axolotl“ kontrastiert werden.
Ich bin auf jeden Fall mehr als gespannt, denn „Powernerd“ ist das Album von Herrn Townsend was mich seit langem am meisten packt.
Mich würde wirklich mal interessieren wie lange der Aufnahmeprozess war.
Und ich will gar nicht wissen, wie viele Spuren jeder Song auf dem digitalen Mischpult belegt hat und wie viele Instrumente dabei zum Einsatz kamen. Wirklich zu hören ist das nicht, zumindest nicht mit meinen Ohren, aber ich höre einige Gitarren, selbst verschiedene Akustikgitarren. Und dann kommen noch die ganzen anderen Instrumente, vor allem die elektronischen wie Keyboard und Synthesizer hinzu. Auch wenn man Industrialanklänge eher vermieden hat.

Ich bin begeistert von der Wandlung auf diesem Album, vor allem die mehrstimmigen Gesänge in den emotionalen Refrains packen mich sehr.

As time slips away like sand through fingers, and the night deepens with a biting cold, we find ourselves reaching out—not to the living, but to some half-remembered ghost, an apparition that offers the comfort the world denies. We are haunted by the need for connection, for someone or something to steady us as the darkness closes in. It’s a fragile plea, this yearning for protection, a final wish whispered into the night’s indifferent air.

The heart, stubborn in its solitude, fights against the creeping cold of loneliness, stretching toward the unseen, hoping for the warmth of something, anything, that promises to understand. It’s the human condition, isn’t it? To feel alone, even when surrounded, to crave a presence that protects, that reassures. The struggle is silent but relentless, and the apparition, real or imagined, becomes a beacon in the dark—a flicker of hope in a world that often feels empty.

Hailing from Oakland, the dark punk ensemble Sympathy Flowers delivers a tenebrous sound led by the formidable Gina Marie (Adrenochrome). With Dusty (Rose Haze) pounding the drums, Adamn wielding the guitar, and Tash laying down the bass, they dive headfirst into the depths of isolation with their fierce new single, “Apparition.” This compelling track is the lead single from their debut EP, “Through the Veil,” which is set to hit the scene on November 1st, courtesy of Harshaura.

Apparition hits like a collision between early Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Damned, and Dead Kennedys—aggressive, raw, and bursting with untamed punk energy. The lyrics pull the listener into a cold, introspective space, where the narrator, trapped in the chill of passing time, reaches out to an unseen presence. There’s a palpable desperation; a plea for guidance in the encroaching darkness.

The song channels that deep human desire for connection, the need for protection when faced with the loneliness that lingers in the night. It’s a struggle against solitude, a battle between despair and the faint hope that an apparition might offer a final solace before the cold overtakes.

Born out of the bleakness of a pandemic-stricken Bristol in 2020, Adoring was the brainchild of vocalist Jack Sargent and multi-instrumentalist George Turner. What began in the confines of a bedroom quickly grew into something far larger, a project that harnessed the restless energy of post-punk and thrust it into the limelight. Soon, they added Scott “Scoops” Alexander-Bowen on guitar and Will Palmer on bass, transforming their sound into a blistering live experience.

After two years in the dark, the post-punk quartet roars back with their new single, Malevolent Grip. The track tears through the air, sharp as broken glass, dragging listeners into its raw, unrelenting embrace. With crushing guitars, pounding electronic beats, and basslines drenched in chorus, Adoring’s sound roams wide, from frenzied post-punk to macabre goth-rock, and ethereal new wave. Their music grips like a vice, pulling from the deep wells of bands like Garden of Mary, Fearing, and The Jesus and Mary Chain. This is the sound of a band that never forgot the weight of isolation but learned to turn it into something explosive, unsettling, and electric.

Malevolent Grip strikes like a fist through glass, a raw preview of what’s coming with Adoring’s third EP, blessedarethepitiful, set to drop on November 15 through Bristol’s independent Hollow Life Records. The lyrics trace the slow, bitter descent of someone trapped in the vice of self-doubt and the relentless grind of conformity. Hopes are shackled, crushed under the weight of expectations, their self-worth ground to dust as they fight to resist being shaped into something they loathe.

The mind’s mountain looms too high, too steep—driving them toward a reckless leap, a desperate dive into whatever lies beyond. They’ve hardened, becoming a stone hurled against their own defenses, caught between a thirst for release and a lingering ache for something better. The track pulses with anger, seething in its resentment of the one who pulls the strings, each line brimming with a barely contained rage. It’s a dark reckoning.

The song builds toward a grim rejection of manipulation, a gnawing desire for vengeance, while also staring down the inevitable fall. Adoring have mastered the art of channeling raw despair into something ferocious, something that demands to be heard before it all crashes down.

“We’ve been performing this song live from before we took a break, so I’m glad we could finally let it out into the world, soon to be accompanied by various other new music offerings,” says vocalist Jack Sargent.

Accompanied by a jarring music video crafted by bassist Will Palmer—a chaotic collision of 70s horror, archival fragments, and warped live clips—the new track plunges into the grim depths of goth-rock. Jack Sargent’s vocals, sharp and ghoulish, lead the charge as the song drags listeners through a dark, jagged landscape. The video mirrors the song’s unsettling energy, each distorted frame pushing the band’s raw, relentless sound further into madness. It’s not a descent for the faint-hearted but a hellish dive into the brutal and the macabre, where nothing is softened and everything is laid bare.

Es genügt dieser Tage ein Blick in die Nachrichten, ein kurzer Ausflug in die sozialen Medien, um jeglichen Sinn infrage zu stellen. Wäre es angesichts des Leids und der Schrecken, die uns dort begegnen, nicht besser, wenn alles morgen schon ein Ende hätte? Den letzten Sargnagel schlagen wir uns doch unweigerlich selbst ein. Zynisch könnte man da den Ansatz FIT FOR AN AUTOPSYs nennen, die sich einer aus den Fugen geratenen Welt entgegenstemmen, indem sie den Finger in die Wunde legen; indem sie aussprechen, was ohnehin schon sicher scheint. Wir sind die Architekten unseres sicheren Untergangs, scheint die Botschaft des verbitterten Titelstücks zu sein.

Dieser Frust und dieser Zorn spiegelt sich folglich auch im Gesamtkontext von „The Nothing That Is“, das die Deathcore-Speerspitze mal ungezügelt und kompromisslos zeigt, bevor sie im nunmehr siebten Anlauf doch immer wieder überraschend eingängige Akzente einstreuen lässt. Den dezent proggigen Touch des Vorgängers „Oh What The Future Holds“ (2022) tauschen FIT FOR AN AUTOPSY daher gegen präsentere Melodieführung, welche Fronter Joe Badolato durch gelegentlichen Klargesang forciert. Das ist zwar nicht komplettes Neuland für die US-Amerikaner, doch in dieser Prominenz sicherlich unerwartet.

Immerhin: Das Experiment geht auf, wie der beflügelte Refrain des Openers „Hostage“ beweist, wo sich das Gespann im Schnelldurchgang durch all ihr handwerkliches Repertoire spielt. Ein wenig GOJIRA schwingt hier mit, paart sich mit catchy Singalongs und genretypischer Durchschlagskraft. Gedämpft wird jene einzig durch Will Putneys Produktion, welcher selbstverständlich US-typisch auf ein massives Fundament setzt, doch die Dynamik im Gegenzug etwas stiefmütterlich behandelt.

Je nach Hörgewohnheiten kann das ermüdend wirken, wobei sich mittelfristig doch die einzelnen Stücke deutlich genug voneinander abgrenzen können. So erinnert „Spoils Of The Horde“ auszugsweise an spätere WHITECHAPEL, wohingegen nicht einmal THY ART IS MURDER den Groove von „Weaker Wolves“ mitreißender hinbekommen hätten. Das flotte „Savior Of None / Ashes Of All” wiederum übersetzt rastloses AT THE GATES-Riffing in den bandeigenen Kosmos, was letztlich ebenfalls hervorhebt, wie variabel FIT FOR AN AUTOPSY mittlerweile als Songwriter agieren können – zumal das Stück im weiteren Verlauf so manche Wandlung durchleben darf.

FIT FOR AN AUTOPSY-Sänger Joe Badolato beeindruckt durch seine Variabilität
Stets an vorderster Front agiert natürlich Sänger Joe Badolato, dessen Performance auf „The Nothing That Is“ so variabel wie mächtig ausfällt. Mit Zug nach vorne flankiert der Shouter die Strophen in „Lurch“, streut zwischendurch einige gezielte Fry-Screams im Stile Sam Carters (ARCHITECTS) ein, um dann mit dem schleppenden Break die massiv drückenden Growls in nahezu bodenlose Regionen zu steuern.

Die selbst in diesen Extremen hindurchschimmernden Emotionen sind gut investiert, schließlich scheuen sich FIT FOR AN AUTOPSY weder vor gesellschaftskritischen („Lower Purpose“) noch politisch aufgeladenen Themen. Dass im musikalisch starken „Red Horizon“ die humanitäre Krise im Gaza-Streifen in den Fokus rückt, ist daher so mutig wie konsequent. Aus Sicht der dortigen Zivilbevölkerung schildert das Sextett die erlebten Schrecken mit vielen symbolträchtigen, doch auch einigen kontroversen Zeilen.

Mit “Red Horizon” begeben sich FIT FOR AN AUTOPSY lyrisch auf dünnes Eis
„Curse you all, beasts of Zion”, heißt es dort etwa im Refrain, bevor das Stück mit dem brisanten Ausruf „From the river to the sea!“ schließt. Obschon Will Putney auf Nachfrage die erstgenannte Zeile nicht auf das Volk Israel allgemein, sondern lediglich auf die Invasoren, und letztere ausschließlich als „Appell für Frieden“ verstanden haben möchte, ist der Kontext im Falle von „Red Horizon“ keinesfalls so „klar“ wie vom Mastermind gedacht.

Völlig auszublenden, dass eben auch die Terrororganisation Hamas im Sinne antisemitischer Bestrebungen jenes Schlagwort für sich beansprucht, ist im Mindesten unreflektiert, naiv und achtlos; ganz besonders noch aufgrund der in diesem Fall einseitigen lyrischen Perspektive. Bedauerlich ist das insbesondere, da die Band mit dem Stück – statt wie nun zu spalten – eigentlich noble Ziele verfolgt: Aus den Mündern FIT FOR AN AUTOPSYs liege der Schwerpunkt jener Worte „auf der Befreiung und ha[be] nichts mit Rassismus zu tun.“, erklärt Putney.

Trotz seines einzigen Makels ist “The Nothing That Is” ein furioses Deathcore-Gewitter
Es sind – und das wollen wir nicht verschweigen – aufrichtige Worte, die wir dem Gitarristen gerne abnehmen. Deshalb steht und fällt das sonst furiose, abwechslungsreiche und stellenweise beeindruckende Deathcore-Gewitter „The Nothing That Is“ auch nicht mit diesem einen beklagenswerten Makel. Den Finger in die Wunde zu legen, bedeutet schlussendlich auch, sich selbigen beizeiten ungewollt schmutzig zu machen. Oder anders ausgedrückt: Dass die Welt so ist, wie sie ist, liegt in unser aller Verantwortung. Wichtig ist daher vor allem, aus unseren Missgeschicken und Fehltritten zu lernen, um selbst in dieser verloren geglaubten Welt neuen Sinn schöpfen zu können; um diesen Planeten am Ende des Tages ein kleines bisschen besser zu machen – und wenn es nur bedeutet, unsere Worte in Zukunft bedachter zu wählen.

Portland’s Federale has just unveiled the video for Dark Waters, a haunting cut from their latest album, Reverb & Seduction, out now via Jealous Butcher Records. Collin Hegna, long a member of The Brian Jonestown Massacre, helms this outfit with the grit of a man steeped in feedback and fuzz.

Twenty years on, Federale’s sound still swirls with the dust of a forgotten frontier.  Hegna and his crew channel a different time—one that feels pulled from some forgotten reel of an alternate 1971 where rock and roll never caught fire, in the spirit of both The Cult and The Church alike. They bridge the cinematic landscapes of Ennio Morricone and the brooding intimacy of Leonard Cohen and Lee Hazlewood. It’s a sound that echoes like footsteps through a ghost town, full of tension and longing, always tethered to the past yet refusing to be contained by it.

“Dark Waters is the heaviest and darkest Federale track to date,” says Hegna. “It represents the furthest stylistic departure from Federale’s traditional sound on a record featuring many such departures. I fully embraced the 80’s Goth influences that have been creeping into our songs for the past couple years and turned up the chorus pedal to Stun.”

The stark simplicity of Dark Waters lays bare its bones—chorused 12-string acoustics, electric leads slicing through like a razor, and a Mellotron laced with unhealthy levels of eerie effects. The beat, relentless and driving, propels a tale that gazes past the grave.

Shot on Cinco de Mayo at Portland’s Coffin Club, a Goth bar with horror film icons and occult décor, the video couldn’t have found a better home. Hallucinations, fueled by drugs and drink, twist reality into a slasher flick dreamscape, with his own bandmates playing the parts. Time slips, sanity shatters. As daylight breaks, he stumbles outside, a changed man, the night’s horrors lingering, answers forever elusive.

Reverb & Seduction is a ten-track odyssey that travels from psych-rock’s swirling energy to intimate country duets. Federale’s roots, once tied to cinematic soundscapes, have expanded into a broader range of influences. What started as homage has become something more layered. Guitars shimmer and pulse beneath vocals that stretch like echoes through the air, with each track offering a distinct stop along a winding road. The album evolves naturally, blending past and present in a way that feels effortless.

Recorded at Revolver Studios in Portland, this album was engineered by Collin Hegna, Matt Thomson, and Andrew Joslyn, and mixed by Hegna alongside Jeff Stuart Saltzman and Thomson. Mastering was handled by Adam Gonsalves at Telegraph Mastering. The album features an impressive lineup of Portland rock-scene veterans, including members of The Dandy Warhols, The Shivas, Roselit Bone, Rogue Wave, and The Delines. Zwei Jahre nach “Marter” schieben die Lörracher Black Metaller FIRTAN bereits das insgesamt vierte Full Length-Album “Ethos” nach. Trotz des Albumtitels geben sich FIRTAN gewohnt atmosphärisch und hymnisch, ohne jemals ins Kitschige abzudriften. Der Klang von “Ethos” fällt authentisch und angeraut aus und umschifft die Klippen “Kellergerumpel” und “Klinisch glatt” galant. Violine, Dulcimer und Piano werden wiederum gekonnt in ausgewählten Passagen eingesetzt und wurden klanglich perfekt in Szene gesetzt. 

FIRTAN mit einer sanften Weiterentwicklung
FIRTAN wagen sich auf “Ethos” mehr als noch auf “Okeanos”, doch sie verfallen nicht in verkopfte Experimente. So setzen sie auf schleppende Parts (etwa in “Komm herbei, schwarze Nacht”), die jedoch nie einen ganzen Song beherrschen. Geschwindigkeitsveränderungen geschehen graduell und FIRTANs Lieder haben eine Sogwirkung, so dass man sich leicht auf diese Geschwindigkeitswechsel einlässt. Poetische Passagen à la alter DORNENREICH oder EMPYRIUM finden sich ebenso wie ruppigere Schwarzmetallparts im Stil von HELRUNAR oder NOCTE OBDUCTA. “Wermut hoch am Firmament” empfiehlt sich als Anspieltipp mit versierter Gitarrenarbeit, doch “Ethos” hat keinen “Superhit” wie das unerreichte “Nacht verweil” vom “Okeanos”-Album. Dies tut der Qualität von “Ethos” indes keinen Abbruch, da FIRTAN sich dafür vielschichtiger zeigen in ihren aktuellen Songs.

“Ethos” klingt unverfälscht und melodiös
“Ethos” empfiehl sich im Ganzen als unverfälschtes und melodiöses Black Metal-Werk. Kitschklippen werden elegant umschifft und FIRTAN geben sich auch auf ihrem vierten Album keine Blösse. FIRTAN beherrschen zudem die Kunst, Gastmusiker und “exotischere” Instrumente nicht ihre Musik übernehmen zu lassen. Sie beide sind zusätzliche Elemente, aber nicht die Hauptfigur. Die Hauptfigur ist unverändert der atmosphärische Schwarzmetall von FIRTAN – und dieser überzeugt.

After the electric jolt of last year’s debut single, Chaos, Corpus Delicti returns with A Fairy Lie, something deceptively quieter.  The track begins soft, almost intimate, before unraveling into something raw and unsettled, a universe simmering with tension. It pulls you in, revealing the band’s knack for walking the line between light and darkness, a duality they’ve danced with since Twilight. That contrast, like a tightrope stretched from the beginning, remains taut. A Fairy Lie echoes with the early echoes of Nick Cave and Leonard Cohen, those dark troubadours who mastered the art of the quiet, cutting revelation, but also brings to mind Peter Murphy’s solo work.

It’s a song that lets the unease creep in. The calm, in appearance, gives way to something deeper—an undercurrent of conflict, the tension between the serene and the storm. Corpus Delicti knows how to stir up that uneasy space where beauty meets brutality, leaving you balanced on the edge of both.

The lyrics of A Fairy Lie lay bare life’s brittle edges, its promises like whispers in the wind—fleeting, false. Pills and passing fads serve as metaphors for the battle between holding the reins or free-falling into chaos. The song stares hard at the thin veneer of reality, where life’s temptations, like a “fairy lie,” unravel at the seams. But amid the wreckage, there’s a rallying cry for resilience, a reminder to stand firm, to save yourself when the world spins out of control.

The video moves like a dream-turned nightmare, a delicate duet between the band and an airy, feather-filled realm. Soft at first, those feathers drift like fragile hope—until they fall, one by one, like dead leaves caught in the dying days of autumn. As the tension tightens, the band surges into those crushing chords, like a storm on the horizon. Thunder rumbles, lightning splits the sky, and the chaos roars to life. The destruction those fairy lies bring is laid bare, raw and real, as the storm crescendos. It’s a vivid portrait of life’s betrayals, the fragility of belief crumbling beneath the weight of its own illusion.

In 1992, from the sun-drenched streets of Nice, Corpus Delicti emerged—Sébastien’s vocals sharp, Franck’s guitar blazing, Chrys’ bass brooding, and Roma’s drums pounding with primal force. Their debut Twilight in 1993 hit like a dark revelation, a sound uncommon in France, yet full of raw energy and moody melody. Post-punk met something deeper, fiercer, and it spread like wildfire across Europe and the US. But by 1997, after two more albums, the fire dimmed, and they disbanded, leaving behind a legacy that still flickers in the dark.

Since their blazing return in 2022, Corpus Delicti has held tight to the pulse of a growing audience, drawing in new faces and fresh followers. Their dark allure stretches across borders, filling venues from Mexico City to London, Paris to Madrid—each show a sell-out, each stage another victory. Thirty concerts in all, each more triumphant than the last. The flame flickers fiercely in the hearts of fans, young and old, as the quartet ignites the crowd with every chord, every verse.

Despite their hiatus, Corpus Delicti’s popularity burgeoned steadily, ultimately leading to a momentous reunion two decades later. They joined forces with Cleopatra, poised to reintroduce their oeuvre to the world. (Regrettably, Roma’s health constraints rendered her unable to participate, prompting the inclusion of Laurent Tamagno from M83 to assume the drumming duties.)

Come late 2024, they’ll sweep through Latin America, cutting a swath from Peru to Colombia, Costa Rica to Mexico, headlining festivals and sending their haunting sound into the humid night air of Mexico City.  The band has their sights set on fresh material, ready to dive into the studio and build a new album from the ground up. There’s no rest for these restless souls. The future is waiting, and Corpus Delicti stands at the edge, poised to leap once more into the fire, taking their fans with them into the unknown.

MESH comment: “Well, ‘we should do a show to celebrate this re-release’ was just a flippant comment made at a barbecue in August”, vocalist and keyboarder Richard Silverthron explains matter of fact. ‘Less than an hour later, our tour-manager Jan Winterfeld, who happened to be in earshot of this remark, had actually booked the very venue in Dresden where the iconic chair picture for the ‘TPAWIFA’ front cover was taken! So it’s happening: a one off show with a nostalgic leaning towards this album is going to take place on the 14th of December 2024.”

With their sophomore full-length “The Point at Which It Falls Apart” that was released in 1999, British dark synthpop act MESH achieved a breakthrough both artistically and in critical acclaim as well as commercially. In the year of the 25th anniversary of the album, MESH reissue this long out of print milestone in a beautiful artbook edition packed with bonus materials.

MESH had been conceived in 1991 when lead singer and guitarist Mark Hockings and keyboardist and vocalist Richard Silverthorn found friendship and mutual common ground, leading to the formation of the band.  This musical partnership has ever since defined MESH’s enduring legacy.

The duo was soon joined by Neil Taylor on keyboards, who had already been playing in another band with Silverthorn. MESH’s creative synergy emerged from a complementary distribution of roles: Richard Silverthorn composed the music, while Mark Hockings penned evocative and profound lyrics, infusing depth and emotion into their soundscapes.

MESH’s musical journey commenced with the release of the “Fragile” EP in 1994 and the full-length debut “In this Place Forever” two years later in 1996. In 1999 came the next grand milestone with the sophomore album “The Point At Which It Falls Apart”. Collaborations with producers such as Mark Oh, showcased the band’s diverse musical inclinations.

The major label release of “Who Watches over Me” in 2002, propelled MESH further into the limelight and marked a turning point. A surge of popularity across Europe, particularly in Germany let the UK band climb higher up the festival billings. Their collaboration with former Depeche Mode producer Gareth Jones for “We Collide” (2006) solidified their status in the electronic music realm.

Adapting to lineup changes, MESH continued their musical journey with the core-duo, augmenting live performances with drummer Sean Suleman and additional live keyboardists. The band strengthened their global presence, particularly expanding in the Americas.

“Automation Baby” (2013) reached #33 on the German album charts and generally dominated European Alternative Charts. With “Looking Skyward” (2016), MESH climbed to even greater heights with a #12 position on the German charts.

Demonstrating artistic versatility, MESH collaborated with a classical orchestra at the ‘Gothic meets Klassik’ festival in 2015. The band continued their musical evolution, and welcomed Vaughn George to their live lineup in April 2023. 

Mark Hockings and Richard Silverthorn are currently in the process of writing the next MESH studio album. To shorten the eager wait for old and new fans alike, the duo is making their longtime sold out and much sought-after second album “The Point at Which It Falls Apart” available again in a diligently remastered version.

Die Blackened Doom / Sludge Metal-Band QAALM hat nach einem Lyric-Video zu “Hangman’s Lament” mit “Borderlands” einen Video-Clip ihres kommenden Albums “Grave Impressions Of An Unbroken Arc” veröffentlicht.

“Dieser Song ist weitgehend von den Geistern inspiriert, die alte Zivilisationen und indigenes Land bewohnen”, sagt Sänger Henry Derek Elis. “Es ist kein Geheimnis, dass es eine beunruhigende Geschichte gibt, die heutige Generationen plagt. Eingeborene, die enteignet, ihrer Ressourcen beraubt und gezwungen wurden, woanders zu leben. Die Dunkelheit taucht wieder auf und manifestiert sich in katastrophalen Dingen. Sie befleckt den Boden und sucht viele der verlorenen Seelen heim, die heute in Aufruhr leben. Selbstverleugnung, Narbenbildung und die Ablehnung der westlichen Religion sind auch hier ein Thema. Gebete für die leidenden Menschen und für reiche Ernten sind eher ein Ritual und von kultureller Bedeutung. Der Erde etwas zurückgeben, wie es die Natur vorgesehen hat.”

Es ist nach “Resilience & Despair” (2022) das zweite Album der US-Amerikaner aus Los Angeles.

“Grave Impressions Of An Unbroken Arc” wurde gemeinsam mit Paul Fig (u.a. für ALICE IN CHAINS tätig) aufgenommen und von Christopher “Zeuss” Harris (u.a. für WITHERFALL tätig) gemixt und gemastert. Das Cover-Artwork stammt von Vladislav Cadaversky (u.a. für MESMUR tätig). Release-Termin ist der 1. November 2024. Vorab gibt es zu “Hangman’s Lament” ein Lyric-Video.

„Geile Band!“ Es ist ein Ausruf, der kurz und bündig zusammenfasst, was normalerweise mehrere Absätze für sich beansprucht. Der Jubelschrei, der in dieser Nacht nicht nur einmal aus der Ecke erklingt, ist in einem überschaubaren Club wie der Kranhalle kaum zu überhören, obwohl der schicke Club im Münchner Feierwerk heute bis zum Anschlag gefüllt ist. Dass die Progressive Metal-Durchstarter UNPROCESSED auf ihrer ersten Headline-Tournee auch ohne großes Label im Rücken vor ausverkauftem Haus stehen, ist das wohlverdiente Resultat harter Arbeit und musikalischer Extraklasse.

Sich das entgehen zu lassen, kommt weder für die einschlägige Szene noch für uns infrage, immerhin schmierte uns das Quartett in diesem Jahr erst auf der Tour mit TESSERACT und dann auf den Sommerfestivals eine gehörige Ladung Honig ums Maul. Den Hunger stillen wollen die Wiesbadener jedoch nicht ohne Vorgeplänkel: Als Appetizer gibt es zweimal Metalcore der modernen Sorte, wobei mit AVRALIZE tatsächlich auch ein hochgehandelter Newcomer das Billing bereichern darf.

HOWL LIKE WOLVES

Den Anfang aber macht mit HOWL LIKE WOLVES ein ebenfalls noch recht unbeschriebenes Blatt. Dass die Band bei ihrem Münchner Debüt ohne Bassist Lasse angereist ist, kaschiert das Quartett mittels einer beherzten Performance. Zugegeben, viel Platz zum Durchdrehen ist auf der zugestellten Bühne nicht, doch schicken sich beide Sänger an, das Beste aus den beengten Verhältnissen zu machen.

Ob auf Augenhöhe mit der Zuhörerschaft oder an der Seite von Gitarrist Kieslich scheint einerlei: An Einsatz mangelt es Shouter Chris sicherlich nicht. Anders zunächst noch das Publikum, das mit offenen Ohren lauscht, sich aber in „Burn Me Down“ noch nicht ganz aus der Reserve locken lässt. HOWL LIKE WOLVES nehmen’s sportlich: Den Moshpit könne man ja auch später noch nachholen. Als sich das Zentrum aber dann in Bewegung setzt, weiß das Sänger Daniel Labenz durchaus zu würdigen, indem er sich für ein paar Augenblicke höchstselbst ins Getümmel stürzt.

HOWL LIKE WOLVES sammeln fleißig Sympathiepunkte

Überhaupt sammelt der Frontmann im Feierwerk fleißig Sympathiepunkte: Nicht nur durch seine astreine Leistung am Mikrofon, sondern auch mittels seiner bodenständigen und kollegialen Art – die hörbar bayerischen Wurzeln des Frontmanns treffen in der Landeshauptstadt natürlich den richtigen Nerv. Daher dürfen sich HOWL LIKE WOLVES am Ende dieser halben Stunde über zahlreiche zufriedene Gesichter freuen. Was dem Modern Metalcore an Originalität fehlt, macht das engagierte Auftreten ganz offensichtlich mit Leichtigkeit wett.

AVRALIZE

Nach erfolgtem Aufwärmprogramm haben es AVRALIZE natürlich leicht, obwohl das Quartett zunächst gegen den arg basslastigen Mix ankämpfen muss. Was also zunächst im Auftakt „Lotus“ zu Lasten der Details geht, wächst im folgenden „Stab By Stab“ schon zum Gewitter an: Die Djent-Vibes des kompromisslosen Tracks heizen den Pit an, der sich schließlich im eingängigen „Canvas“ zur Tanzfläche wandelt.

Sänger Severin Sailer, dessen karierte Hose sicherlich das modische Highlight des Abends darstellt, lässt analog auf den Brettern die Hüften kreisen, so dass die Gelenke auch für das nächste Kunststück entsprechend aufgewärmt sind. Verluste zu beklagen gibt es in der Wall of Death glücklicherweise nur temporär: Einen kurzen Augenblick später wird das herrenlose Schuhwerk im Zentrum ehrfurchtsvoll wie ein Heiligtum präsentiert und schließlich feierlich seinem Besitzer übergeben.

Bei AVRALIZE zieht es manchem Fan gar die Schuhe aus

Die Schuhe zieht es wenig später auch uns aus, wenngleich nur im übertragenen Sinn. Als AVRALIZE-Frontmann Severin Sailer in „Freaks“ das Mikro plötzlich ins Publikum reicht, weckt das spontane und stimmgewaltige Gast-Feature vertraute Assoziationen. Nur ob CYPECORE-Frontmann Dominic Christoph entgegen aller Wahrscheinlichkeit tatsächlich die Kranhalle beehrt, können wir letztlich nicht mit Sicherheit sagen. Wohl aber, dass die Rottweiler am Ende ihres Sets einige neue Fans in ihren Reihen willkommen heißen dürfen: „Geile Band!“, schallt es wie schon bei ihren Vorgängern aus der Ecke nach vorne – da können wir nur beipflichten.

UNPROCESSED

Mit AVRALIZE räumt auch das zweite der ursprünglich drei Drumsets auf der Bühne das Feld, was dem Headliner im Anschluss ganz neue Möglichkeiten eröffnet. Den geschaffenen Platz nutzt die Formation sogleich bereitwillig aus, wobei heute abermals Bassist David John Levy die meisten Meter zurücklegen dürfte. Stillstehen will der Musiker wirklich nur dann, wenn er in leidenschaftlicher Weise ein paar Backing Vocals beisteuert. So viel Einsatz bleibt nicht unbelohnt: Der Moshpit nimmt in der ausverkauften Kranhalle schon im Opener „Hell“ erkennbare Konturen an, dreht sich im folgenden „Lore“ dann gar um die eigene Achse.

Die Frage, wer denn das Material des aktuellen Werks „…And Everything In Between“ (2023) kenne, ist angesichts dieser Bilder wohl eher rhetorisch zu werten: Der Jubel nach dem gefühlvollen Solo von „Blackbone“ spricht eine ähnlich deutliche Sprache wie die begeisterten Aufschreie, als Gitarrist Manuel Gardner Fernandes die ersten Takte der Single „Thrash“ anstimmt. Dass der Mix heute nicht ganz so glasklar ausfällt wie zuletzt auf dem SUMMER BREEZE OPEN AIR, kann weder Songmaterial noch unserer Stimmung etwas anhaben. Die wichtigen Details sind präsent und werden in visueller Hinsicht durch animierte Projektionen untermalt.

Ob Stagediving oder Lichtermeer: UNPROCESSED können auf ihre Fans zählen

Eine ausgeklügelte Videoshow bieten UNPROCESSED zwar nicht, doch ist das angesichts der spieltechnischen Meisterklasse ohnehin zweitrangig: Die Augen der Münchner:innen wandern daher ohnehin lieber über die Griffbretter, wenn nicht gerade ein älterer Track wie „Abandoned“ zum Mithüpfen animiert oder die Ballade „Glass“ nach passender Lichtuntermalung schreit. Tatsächlich dürfte die Kranhalle heute einen Pro-Kopf-Rekord aufstellen: Zumindest in unserer näheren Umgebung zeigt die Gruppendynamik Wirkung, sodass nicht ein einziges Smartphone in der Tasche bleibt.

Einen möglichen Nachteil der nun vergleichsweise geräumigen Bühne erkennt sodann David John Levy: Da es auf den Brettern offenbar recht einsam werden kann, bittet der Bassist für „Orange Grove“ alle Stagediver um etwas Gesellschaft. Pausieren muss die Surfstunde derweil schon im nachfolgenden Stück. Denn als mit „Die On The Cross Of Your Martyr” die Stimmung im Feierwerk ihren vorläufigen Höhepunkt erreicht, ist wieder voller Körpereinsatz gefragt.

Für UNPROCESSED wird das Gastspiel in München zum Siegeszug

Tatsächlich ist die Fähigkeit der Band, spieltechnische Machtdemonstrationen so geschickt und eingängig zu verpacken, ein kleines Kunststück. Alle Tage kommt es jedenfalls nicht vor, dass wir sogar einer Solo-Einlage wie der von Manuel Gardner Fernandes mit Begeisterung lauschen. Zwischen Gefühl in „Rain“ bzw. dem gemeinsam gesungenen „Deadrose“ und einem mitreißenden Kraftakt wie „Haven“ wird das letzte Drittel des Sets so zum unweigerlichen Siegeszug – oder der Party unseres Lebens, um es mit Bassist Levys Worten auszudrücken. Nur eine Sache spricht nach diesen 75 Minuten eine noch deutlichere Sprache als der ohrenbetäubende Beifall: Das Schweigen aus der Ecke deutet an, dass es wohl selbst dem zuvor so enthusiastischen Besucher nach dieser Performance die Sprache verschlagen hat.

Die Doom Metal-Band EPITAPH hat einen Labeldeal bei My Kingdom Music unterschrieben. Dieser sieht den Release des neuen Albums “Path To Oblivion” vor, welches am 20. Dezember 2024 erscheinen wird. Das Cover-Artwork stammt von Luciana Nedelea (u.a. für GHOST BATH tätig). Nach “Kingdom Of Slumber” gibt es mit “Voices Behind The Wall” nun ein weiteres Lyric-Video.

House of Mythology proudly presents the official release of Ulver’s monumental Grieghallen concert from the 2018 Bergen International Festival.

Grieghallen 20180528 documents the pinnacle of Ulver’s 2017–2018 touring cycle, following the release of their landmark album The Assassination of Julius Caesar. A massive explosion of sound and light went off in Bergen that night, leaving the baffled audience floating somewhere between pleasure and fear.

Professionally multitracked by the Bright AS stage tech team, Kristoffer Rygg and Anders Møller were asked to mix the tracks for the 2020 “streaming edition” of the same festival. After having circulated as a YouTube bootleg, it is now being made official partly due to popular demand, and partly because we think of it as a magnificent companion piece to the studio version of Caesar – showing Ulver at the height of their live game.

The Slovenian artists’ collective LAIBACH, who used the venue for their performances once again in October 2024, are well aware of this. A long queue of visitors formed in front of the church before the entrance. In the entrance area, fans had the opportunity to buy various merchandise items such as T-shirts, CDs, vinyl and posters. …And We All Die, based between Texas and D.C.,, began around 2000 as a collaborative project with a diverse group of friends and artists, aiming to fuse the raw energy of UK82 punk, US hardcore, and industrial acts like The Exploited, Integrity, and Ministry with the darker, melodic edge of post-punk bands like The Cure, New Order, and The Sisters of Mercy.

Now …And We All Die returns just in time for Halloween with their latest 4-track EP, Static Age. A fierce fusion of hardcore, post-punk, noise-rock, and industrial grit, the release features bold covers of the Misfits’ Static Age and TV Casualty, both twisted and torn into fresh shapes with the help of metal blade synthwave artist Gost. The EP also includes two industrial-drenched reworkings of the same tracks, pulling them further into the dark heart of modern sound that will have you…Danzig in the streets?

Led by Raymond Burton Estes on vocals and bass, the lineup calls on longtime East Texas comrades: drummer Walter Lee (of Rockett Queen) and guitarist Guillermo Murillo (The Half Guided Hearts). Adding extra spice to the title track, the core trio is augmented by Shelby Cinca (catbeats) on additional guitar. Further synths and programming were provided by William Faith (The Bellwether Syndicate). It’s a heavy, relentless offering, a sonic gut punch of reimagined classics and new textures, all pulsing with the raw energy that has defined the band since its inception. Perfect for a haunting holiday release!

“We chose these Misfits covers because they’re great songs from the band’s early era that lend themselves to interpretation,” says Raymond Burton Estes. “We leaned into their heavier elements but chose a more post-punk or noise-rock approach, rather than a straightforward punk or metal one. Our releases usually come out in the Spring, but Halloween is a more appropriate time to share these songs and celebrate the Misfits…it was great having members of ‘90s hardcore bands collaborate. Perhaps it’s a taste of what to expect with some …And We All Die in the future.”

The combined production and engineering talents of all involved are on full display with this release. Static Age is the first new release from …And We All Die since 2018’s Modern Day Privateers (Remixes), which featured such luminaries as Daniel Ash (Bauhaus, Love and Rockets, Tones On Tail), Assemblage 23, Gost, Ego Likeness, The Gothsicles, and others.

“We have been busy recording songs and have several releases in the works, including a dark industrial rock album; an EP of Cure covers; a rock record; and at least one new punk rock song,” Estes says. “Our next release will be this dark album with a broad range of influences – post-punk, industrial, and noise rock. John Gable of post-punk revival band Knifight did the bulk of the production, and it’s headed to William Faith for post-production and mixing. We hope to get this record finished and released in 2025.”
