Die Blackened Post-Metal-Band SARGASSUS hat nach dem Lyric-Video zu „The Lone Idunn Grows in Shade“ mit „Pahat Veräjät“ eine dritte Single ihres kommenden Albums „Vitruvian Rays“ veröffentlicht.

„Der Song erzählt die Geschichte einer Reise durch die Wildnis zwischen den Lebenden und den Toten und fragt, ob der Wert eines Lebens in Reichtum gemessen werden kann (oder sollte), da alle materiellen Besitztümer schließlich zurückgelassen werden wird“, erklärt die Band.

Es ist nach drei EPs das erste Album der Finnen aus Tampere und wird am 13. Juni 2025 via Inverse Records erscheinen. Vorab gibt es mit „Spirit of Gravity“ auch einen Video-Clip.

„Die chaotische Natur des Songs mag zum Teil die Launen der Band selbst widerspiegeln, aber dieses beklemmende Gefühl ist auch ein zentrales Thema auf dem Rest des kommenden Albums. „Spirit of Gravity“erzählt die Geschichte eines ekstatischen Rituals in okkulter Manier und reflektiert gleichzeitig philosophische Aspekte der ewigen Wiederkehr und des immanenten Wertes des Lebens“, sagt die Band.

Die Folk Metal-Band AFARGANG hat mit „Andvake“ ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist der erste Release des von Olav Mjelva ins Leben gerufenen Projekts.

„Als Volksmusiker fühle ich, dass die alte Musik und Kultur Norwegens ein Teil meines Erbes ist. Ich benutze die Geige, um Klanglandschaften zu schaffen, und nicht als Hauptmelodie. Es gibt eine Menge Folk-Metal-Bands, die Folkmusik nicht wirklich verstehen. Sie schreiben Melodien, die folkloristisch klingen, und spielen sie mit schweren Gitarren, aber ich glaube nicht, dass das sehr gut funktioniert. Ich wollte die nordischen Elemente als Soundkulisse für die sehr schwere Musik verwenden“, sagt Olav Mjelva.

Wenige Wochen zuvpr hat die Band nach dem Titeltrack mit „The Hermit“ einen weiteren Video-Clip veröffentlicht. Der Song erzählt die Geschichte einer verlorenen Seele – ein Mann, der mit seinen inneren Dämonen kämpft, abgeschnitten von der Welt, gefangen in seinem eigenen Geist. Der Text ist voller Symbolik für Isolation, verlorene Hoffnung und einen inneren Kampf.

„Thirst For Chaos“ ist nach zwei EPs das erste Album der Polen und wurde von Gitarrist Hubert Potomski gemixt und gemastert. Release-Termin ist der 13. Juni 2025.

Davor hat die Band mit „Wear Your Leather Proud“ eine weitere Single mitsamt Video-Clip veröffentlicht. Der Song sei eine Hommage an die Metal-Kultur, Biker und Punks.

Although guitar and guitar synth motifs often initiate his expansive catalogue of over 200 compositions, rarely does the guitar itself take the spotlight. English songwriter-guitarist Duncan Lloyd steps into the limelight with his latest offering, Rituals, an intricate pop gem born from a year fraught with challenges. Serving as the evocative second glimpse into his forthcoming 12-track record, Unwound (Reveal Records), Lloyd effortlessly blends modern indie sensibilities with deeply personal reflections, anchoring listeners in themes of routine, recovery, and quiet resilience.

Best known as the musical backbone of celebrated art-rock ensemble Maximo Park, Lloyd also showcases his versatility as part of indie collective Nano Kino, co-writing alongside Sarah Suri. Rituals, however, distinctly echoes with his individual voice, striking chords reminiscent of Lloyd Cole and the Commotions, the languid brilliance of Beta Band, the buoyancy of Lightning Seeds, and Belle and Sebastian’s wistful charm.

Lloyd’s tender vocals float gracefully atop shimmering guitar arrangements, creating a luminous pop reverie that gently revolves in rhythmic circles, almost hypnotically mirroring the track’s lyrical exploration. Addressing the tangled intersection of fame and authenticity, Rituals grapples with the subtle erosion of personal identity that accompanies public acclaim. Yet beneath its contemplative veneer lies a resilient embrace of inner clarity and human authenticity amid life’s noisy tumult.

“The song is about habits, good and bad. It’s also a song about trying to help someone recover,” says Lloyd. “Musically I was thinking of it being like a circle where the rhythm changes but the chords keep rotating, I wanted it to sound like it was coming through several broken radios, with only one being crystal clear…I wrote it during a difficult year, and as with a few of the songs on the record it’s fundamentally a personal message to a loved one. I got a little obsessed with the sound of the production as I wanted it to be different from anything I’d done before, so it has this modern sense to it.”

Complementing the music, the accompanying video radiates tranquility and nostalgia, elegantly blending Super-8 film sequences that capture serene natural vistas alongside Lloyd’s introspective, sincere performance. The visuals deepen the song’s contemplative atmosphere, harmonizing imagery and melody into a cohesive, poetic reflection on life’s delicate rituals, both comforting and confining.

Unwound marks Duncan Lloyd’s debut studio album release with Reveal Records, following previous records with Warp Records and independent ventures. Adorned with artwork derived from Lloyd’s own paintings, this album unfurls a captivating musical landscape, balancing richly expressive intimacy with moments of stark urgency and delicate melody.

The recording process saw collaboration with Julie McLarnon (The Vaselines, Lankum, King Creosote, Jeffrey Lewis, Brigid Mae Power) at the renowned Analogue Catalogue Studios in Ireland, complemented by Lloyd’s own meticulous work at his studio in Newcastle Upon Tyne. Modernism, night-soaked streets, the aching solitude of buses, and echoes of moments unheld: these elements construct the evocative realm of Πύργος Αθηνών (Pýrgos Athinón).

Distilling poetry through raw, mechanical filters, this anonymous project pays homage to Athens’ stark architecture and urban alienation, creating a striking collision of emotion and brutalism. Born from quarantine solitude, Πύργος Αθηνών is an enigmatic force without identity, a phantom presence blending analogue synths, gritty vocoders, and digital pulses. The result? A seamless blend of futurepop elegance and industrial tension, conjuring echoes of Nitzer Ebb’s hypnotic urgency, Anne Clark’s passionate poetry, and Cabaret Voltaire’s stark experimentation.

Πύργος Αθηνών is an expression through absence. Rejecting social media and personal profiles, the project hands narrative duties to Athens itself. The city’s “buildings, shadows, lights, and statues” voice human tales of longing and quiet despair.

“We express human feelings and experiences through the silent presence of Athens’ classical modernist buildings, through people who loved people, tearful eyes, shadows, and those who exhale their remaining time between structures, lights, and small green squares,” they explain.

The accompanying black-and-white video, shot on a long-abandoned phone from the early 2000s, shudders between memory and present-day clarity. It poses existential questions, blurring boundaries between past glories and contemporary decay. “Once, this lens was superior,” they muse. “Now, it captures a world that pretends to move forward. But what remains still? Do buildings remember us as clearly as we remember them? Do they mourn our restless passing?”

With sharp intensity, the footage interrogates humanity’s trajectory: “Does the gaze of humanity evolve, or does it merely blur? Is new technology truly new when filtered through yesterday’s dust? Amidst the deliberate visual degradation, truth sharpens. Each grainy frame asks, has the Leviathan already devoured us—or do we sail quietly upon its back, united and adrift? These are coordinates for those still looking. We’ll be waiting.”

WARKINGS veröffentlichen ihr fünftes Album: „Armageddon“ erscheint am 4. Juli 2025. Mit einem Video zu „Kings Of Ragnarök“ haben WARKINGS nun eine weitere Single veröffentlicht.

 

Im Mai hat die Band auch Video zur zweiten Single „Genghis Kahn“ veröffentlicht, einer Kooperation mit ORDEN OGAN.

Zum Titeltrack „Armageddon” gibt’s seit Mitte April ein Video bei YouTube.

BATTLE BEAST stellen ihre neue Single „Steelbound“ vor – auch dieser Song wird auf dem kommenden, siebten Album der Finnen zu hören sein. Es soll noch in diesem Jahr veröffentlicht werden.

 

Anfang Mai stellte die Band den neuen Song „Last Goodbye“ mit einem Musikvideo bei YouTube vor.

Eine weitere Headline-Tournee durch Europa haben BATTLE BEAST schon vor einiger Zeit angekündigt. Station machen werden die Finnen dabei auch in Hamburg, Berlin, Filderstadt, Wiesbaden, Hannover, Leipzig, Nürnberg, München, Saarbrücken und Oberhausen. In Österreich gibt es eine Show in Wien, in der Schweiz steht Pratteln auf dem Programm.

Nach einem halten Jahrhundert hat sich ALICE COOPER wieder mit alten Bandkollegen zusammengetan: Auf dem neuen Album „The Revenge Of Alice Cooper“ sind Gitarrist Michael Bruce, Bassist Dennis Dunaway und Drummer Neal Smith zu hören, diese Besetzung arbeitet bereits vor 51 Jahren zusammen. Das Album erscheint am 25. Juni 2025 via Ear Music.

Außerdem wurden alte Aufnahmen des 1997 verstorbenen Gitarristen Glen Buxton verwendet: Der Song ‚What Happened To You‘ beruht auf einer Idee von einem Demotape, das Dunaway und Buxton aufgenommen haben, der Bonustrack ‚Return Of The Spiders 2025‘ ist ein Remix eines Titels vom zweiten Album „Easy Action“ von 1970. Produziert hat das Album Bob Ezrin.

SODOM planen die Veröffentlichung ihres neuen Albums „The Arsonist“ für den 27. Juni 2025. Das Besondere an der Platte: Die Thrash Metal-Band nahm die neuen Songs analog auf, um etwaige Ungereimtheiten zu bewahren. Sänger Tom Angelripper führt aus:

„Kein Plastik! Der klangliche Unterschied zu den heute üblichen Drums-Produktionen ist gewaltig und hat sich auf sämtliche Instrumente positiv ausgewirkt. Natürlich waren auch Aufwand und Kosten höher, aber für mehr Qualität zahlen wir gerne.“

Nun haben SODOM einen dritten Song veröffentlicht und auch ein Lyrics-Video zu „Taphephoba“ geteilt. Tom Angelripper erklärt den Songtite: 

„„Taphephobia“ ist eine abnorme Angst davor, lebendig begraben zu werden, weil man fälschlicherweise für tot erklärt wurde. Schlagzeuger Toni Merkel, der auch ein hervorragender Gitarrist ist, hat diesen Song beigesteuert und dazu beigetragen, das Album noch vielseitiger zu gestalten.“

Mit der zweiten Single erinnern SODOM an den 2008 verstorbenen Drummer Chris Witchhunter, das Video entstand unter der Ägide von Ex-Sodom Gitarrist Andy Brings.

Als erste Single teilte die Band „Trigger Discipline“ – sie soll das härteste Material auf „The Arsonist“ sein. Erscheinen wird die Scheibe wie SPV/Steamhammer auf CD, Vinyl sowie digital.

Belgium’s minimal wave pioneers Linear Movement (18:20) will deliver precise, nostalgic synth compositions. Following this, Berlin-based Serbian duo Sixth June (19:40) offer sophisticated darkwave, marked by subtle emotional textures and analogue warmth. Later, Philadelphia’s Void Vision (21:00) brings stark minimalism paired with haunting vocals, before UK veterans Turquoise Days (22:40) round off the evening with classic minimal-wave elegance.

Alternatively, Moritzbastei showcases two essential contemporary darkwave acts. Immediately following is a very special reunion performance by Germany’s darkwave icons Silke Bischoff (23:00). Known for their classic On The Other Side, this set will poignantly honour their late vocalist Felix Flaucher, who passed in 2017. Stay late to witness the provocative and controversial antics of John Lydon’s legendary post-punk outfit, Public Image Limited (01:00), or opt for one of the festival’s vibrant afterparties.

Alternatively, synthpop enthusiasts should head to Felsenkeller to catch the timeless American outfit Anything Box (20:40). Those seeking newer darkwave voices paired with seasoned veterans can visit Moritzbastei, featuring France’s haunting synth-driven newcomers Sad Madona (22:00), followed by legendary Canadian synthpop pioneers Psyche (23:10).

Finland’s glam-inflected goth legends The 69 Eyes (19:55) conjure their trademark dark romanticism, providing an ideal prelude to the sophisticated electronic charm of Germany’s beloved synth-pop veterans Camouflage (21:20). Indeed, Camouflage—are our number one pick of this year’s entire WGT lineup; timeless tracks like The Great Commandment promise nostalgia tempered by elegant modernity. The festival then draws to a profound conclusion with UK post-punk icons New Model Army (22:45), their politically charged, passionate anthems offering both catharsis and communal intensity.

Mittlerweile (irgendwann seit „The Satanist“) schimpfen ja viele auf BEHEMOTH. Ausverkauf! Zu sehr gehypet! Unverdient! Nergal ist doof! Zu plakative Provokation! Lächerliche Zurschaustellung von Satanismus, der nicht ehrlich rüberkommt! Bla bla bla! Meiner Meinung nach alles unangebracht und ohne Substanz, beziehungsweise einfach nur persönlicher Geschmack. Die Band ist megaerfolgreich mit ihrer Schiene, was Bestätigung genug sein sollte. Was bei vielen aber wahrscheinlich eben auch genug der Kritikpunkt ist.
Leute, nicht jeder wühlt sich nur durch den Underground. Und so gut wie alle Bands, die groß sind, haben im Underground angefangen und sich über die Zeit verändert.
Ich habe die Polen über die letzten 20 Jahre einige Male live gesehen, unter anderem jeden Auftritt auf dem Party.San. Das ist jedes Mal Abriss und sie machen ihren Job jedes Mal gut. Ob es jetzt jedem gefällt sei dahingestellt. Sie haben verdient dort zu stehen, wo sie es tun!
Mit „The Shit Ov God“ wird jetzt Album 13 vorgelegt und mit jedem Album wird die Band zu Recht größer. Auf dem Party.San werde ich sie deswegen wohl nicht mehr sehen können, schade.
Im Zuge der Veröffentlichung von „The Shit Ov God“ habe ich ein Video gesehen, wo Nergal in der Guitar Clinic des Inferno Festival zum Publikum über die Entstehung des Albums gesprochen hat. Das Album sei ein „riffbased album“ und er hat sich viele Gedanken über den Gesang gemacht. Er setzt zum Beispiel später ein, nicht immer direkt am Anfang des Songs, da er auch einfach mal genießen will und damit er auch mehr Kontakt zum Publikum haben kann. Das hat meine Sicht auf das Album direkt beeinflusst, da ich immer auf die Riffs und den Gesang geachtet habe. Und ich kann direkt bestätigen, dass sich die Musik von BEHEMOTH dadurch tatsächlich verändert hat. ALLES ist typisch BEHEMOTH, aber wenn man wirklich genau hinhört, kann man die Veränderungen wahrnehmen. Die Songs sind etwas anders aufgebaut, die Riffs klingen „einfacher“, was für meinen Geschmack aber absolut songdienlich ist. Ich könnte mir gut vorstellen, dass die Band damit mehr Hörer dazugewinnt, als sie potentiell verlieren könnte.
Das Zeichen „Shit“, welches im Cover und  als Wort auch Albumtitel vorkommt, ist ein gestürztes „Namenssigel“ von Jesus, wobei es im Original noch das christliche Kreuz enthält und eine interessante „Geschichte“.
Hier zwei Erklärungen dazu:
1. „Das Nomen sacrum IHS leitet sich von den ersten drei Buchstaben des Namens Jesu in griechischen Großbuchstaben Ι Η Σ Ο Υ Σ ab, wobei das Sigma durch ein lateinisches S ersetzt ist.“
2. „Die ersten drei Buchstaben des griechischen Wortes für Jesus; sie werden auch als Abk. verstanden für „Jesus, Erlöser der Menschen“ (lat.: Iesus Hominum Salvator) oder volkstümlich gedeutet als „Jesus, Heiland, Seligmacher“ bzw. lat. „In Hoc Salus“ („In ihm ist das Heil“) oder „In Hoc Signo[vinces]“ („In diesem Zeichen wirst du siegen“); als Christusmonogramm wird das IHS vor allem von den Jesuiten in ihrem Ordenswappen gebraucht.“
Als Nergal es einmal umgedreht betrachtet hat, konnte er das „Shit“ nicht aus seinem Kopf bekommen und so hat es Einzug gehalten!
Musikalisch ist man durchaus langsamer geworden, was natürlich nicht bedeutet, das keine Blastbeats auf „The Shit Ov God“ zu finden sind. Das kann man zum Beispiel gut im Song „Nomen Barbarvm“ erkennen. Ein „Nomen Brabarum“ ist ein (vermeintlich) bedutungsloses Wort, welches in magischen Ritualen verwendet wird. Zusätzlich stolpere ich dort über das Wort „Abracadabra“, welche eigentlich „Abrahadabra“ heißt und von Crowley erstmals 1901 im zentralen Text, dem „Gesetzesbuch“ von Thelema benutzte. Damit wäre ein Bogen zum 2000´er Album „Thelema.6“ geschlagen. Ich mag diese Hintergrundinfos sehr gerne. Auch wenn viele dadurch auf den nicht genügend ernsthaften Satanismus von Crowley kommen und deswegen das Gesamte ablehnen.
BEHEMOTH verfolgen ihren Weg, mit leichter „Kurskorrektur“ weiter und werden damit entsprechend erfolgreich bleiben.
Ein Risiko geht man mit dieser Scheibe nicht ein, muss ja aber auch nicht immer passieren.
Man hat vorher schon oft bewiesen, dass man wesentlich brutaler sein kann und/oder kreativer sein kann. Die dichte Atmosphäre ist wie üblich eine Wand. Die Omnipräsenz von Nergal wird fortgeführt und das steht der Musik und der Band gut zu Gesicht.
„The Shit Ov God“ ist kein Aha-Moment, gefällt mir aber wirklich gut. Besonders im Song „Lvciferaeon“ und den letzten beiden Tracks „O, Venvs Come!“ und „Avgvr (The Dread Vvltvre)“.
Bis auf das seltsame Cover (dazu fehlt wahrscheinlich die Hintergrundstory), habe ich an dem Album keine großartigen Kritikpunkte. Es macht einfach Spaß! (hendrik)

By now (sometime since The Satanist), a lot of people have started bashing BEHEMOTH.Sellout! Overhyped! Undeserved! Nergal is annoying! Too much shallow provocation! Laughable display of Satanism that doesn’t feel genuine! Blah blah blah!In my opinion, all of that is unjustified and lacks any real substance—or it’s just personal taste, plain and simple. The band is hugely successful with their approach, which should be proof enough that they’re doing something right. Though for many, that success is exactly what fuels the criticism.

Come on, not everyone digs only through the underground. And almost every band that ends up big started out in the underground and evolved over time.

I’ve seen the Poles live several times over the past 20 years—among others, every show they played at Party.San. It’s always been pure demolition, and they always deliver. Whether that’s everyone’s cup of tea is beside the point. They earned their place at the top.

Now, with The Shit Ov God, they’re releasing album number 13—and with each album, the band grows larger, and deservedly so. That probably means I won’t see them at Party.San anymore, which is a shame.

Around the release of The Shit Ov God, I watched a video where Nergal spoke to the audience at the Inferno Festival’s Guitar Clinic about the making of the album. He said it’s a “riff-based album” and that he put a lot of thought into the vocals. For example, he doesn’t always jump in with vocals right at the start of a song—sometimes he just wants to take in the moment and also connect more with the audience. That perspective really changed how I listened to the album, since I always focus heavily on riffs and vocals. And I can confirm: BEHEMOTH’s music has truly evolved because of that.

Everything still sounds like BEHEMOTH, but if you listen closely, you can pick up on the changes. The song structures are different, the riffs sound “simpler”—which, in my opinion, serves the songs better. I can easily imagine the band gaining more listeners through this, rather than losing them.

The word “Shit,” which appears on the cover and as the album title, is a reversed “name sigil” of Jesus—originally it includes the Christian cross and has an interesting backstory.

Here are two explanations:

The sacred name IHS is derived from the first three letters of Jesus’ name in Greek capital letters ΙΗΣΟΥΣ, with the sigma replaced by a Latin S.

These are also seen as an abbreviation for „Jesus, Savior of Men“ (Latin: Iesus Hominum Salvator), or more loosely interpreted as „Jesus, Redeemer, Savior“ or „In Hoc Salus“ („In Him is salvation“), or even „In Hoc Signo [vinces]“ („In this sign you will conquer“). The IHS monogram is especially associated with the Jesuit order’s emblem.

When Nergal once looked at it upside down, he couldn’t unsee the word “Shit,” and it stuck—so it ended up in the album.

Musically, they’ve definitely slowed down a bit—but that doesn’t mean you won’t find any blast beats on The Shit Ov God. One good example is the song “Nomen Barbarvm.”

A nomen barbarum is a supposedly meaningless word used in magical rituals. I also stumbled across the word “Abracadabra” there—which is actually “Abrahadabra,” first used by Aleister Crowley in 1901 in the central text of Thelema, the Book of the Law. That, of course, draws a line back to their 2000 album Thelema.6.

I love this kind of background info. Even if some people then bring up the idea that Crowley’s Satanism isn’t “serious” enough, and use that as a reason to dismiss it all.

BEHEMOTH are continuing on their path—with a slight course correction—and will remain successful doing so.This album doesn’t take huge risks—but that’s okay. They’ve already proven many times before that they can be much more brutal and/or creative.

The dense atmosphere is, as always, a wall of sound. Nergal’s omnipresence continues—and that really suits the music and the band.

The Shit Ov God isn’t a big “Aha!” moment, but I genuinely like it. Especially the song Lvciferaeon and the final two tracks, O, Venvs Come! and Avgvr (The Dread Vvltvre).

Aside from the strange cover (which probably has its own background story I’m missing), I have no real complaints about the album. It’s just a lot of fun!

Die schwedische Gothic Rock Band SCHEITAN hat ein Musikvideo zu ihrer bereits veröffentlichten Single „Heaven Tonight“ veröffentlicht. Das Video, ein gemeinschaftliches Kunstprojekt, das von der bekannten Fotokünstlerin Annie Bertram (bekannt für ihre Arbeit mit Blutengel, She Hates Emotions und The Giger Museum) produziert wurde, erweckt die düstere, aber energiegeladene Stimmung des Songs zum Leben. Auf „Heaven Tonight“ sind auch Katrin Lanfire und Maik Beiersdorf zu hören.

„Heaven Tonight“ wurde von dem renommierten Daniel Bergstrand (bekannt für seine Arbeit mit In Flames und Soilwork) gemixt. Ein Remix von „Heaven Tonight“ durch Ashbury Heights‘ eigenen CJ soll bald veröffentlicht werden und verspricht eine clubtaugliche Version des bereits tanzbaren Tracks.

Vier Tage volles Brett! In Dinkelsbühl bebt vom 13-16. August vier Tage lang wieder die Alb. Wieso sollte man aber genau dieses Metalevent besuchen?

Das Schöne am Breeze ist die freundliche Atmosphäre. Es ist ein gewachsenes Festival und viele Besucher kommen seit Jahrzehnten. Dazu gehöre auch ich, 2003 bin ich das erste Mal dabei gewesen und bin Abends in Abtsgmünd wieder den Berg hochgekrochen. Die Helfer und Mitarbeiter sind mit Herzblut dabei und das merkt man auch sehr.

2025 geht auch das neue und wichtige Awareness Konzept an den Start, das allen Besucherinnen und Besuchern ein noch besseres Gefühl vermitteln soll. Achtet auf das Augenzeichen, hier könnt ihr euch hinwenden, wenn ihr euch diskriminierend behandelt fühlt. It’s all about the community.
