Tanzbrunnen, Cologne, Germany 19th July 2025Amphi Festival 2025 Day 1 with Vlad in Tears, Hell Boulevard, Eisfabrik, Bloody Dead And Sexy, Gulvøss, Nachtblut, Ductape, Unify Separate, Letzte Instanz, The Nosferatu, Rein, Die Krupps, Traitrs, Ashbury Heights, Camouflage, Xandria, Rome, Project Pitchfork, Spiritual Front, Skynd Folks, I’m definitely too old for that shit... And yet - “I’m gonna go to the end of the world - come on, come on - to the end of the world - come on, come on - to the end of the world...”. Those lines are still echoing in my head after Amphi-Saturday, and I’ve got a feeling they’ll be putting a blissed-out smile on my face for quite a while. But first things first, but not necessarily in that order.

SALTATIO MORTIS veröffentlichen eine „Best Of“ zum 25. Bandjubiläum und ihre Fans haben entschieden, welche Songs auf dieses Album kommen. Aus einem sehr ausführlichen Auswahlprozess ist eine Sammlung von 50 Liedern entstanden, die eine Reise durch 25 Jahre Bandgeschichte erzählen. Von Jotunheim über Midgard bis Muspelheim – in fünf Welten wurde abgestimmt und damit das Tracklisting dieser Jubiläumsausgabe geformt. Dabei gibt es für die Hörer nicht nur eine interessante Mischung aus allen Phasen der Bandhistorie, sondern auch die ein oder andere alternative Version vom Original zu hören. Darunter die bereits zuvor veröffentlichten Songs „Wo sind die Clowns?“ in einer exklusiven Orchesterversion und „Spielmannsschwur (United)“, den sie gemeinsam mit ihren wichtigsten Freunden und Weggefährten der Band aus der deutschen Folk-, Rock- und Metal-Szene neu interpretiert haben.

Wenn man die Band so beobachtet und sich den gesamten Auswahlprozess der 50 Tracks anschaut sowie einen Blick auf das sehr schön gestaltete Artwork für CD und Vinyl wirft, wird sehr deutlich, dass sie ihren Fans unendlich dankbar sind für das, was sie erreichen durften mit ihrer Musik. Und die hat ja auch mittlerweile viele Facetten angenommen. Das Thema Mittelalter trifft Fantasy trifft Wikinger und auch Politik und wird musikalisch von Akustik MA Folk über Rock und Metal bis Punk auf den neueren Alben durchaus sehr modern interpretiert. Die Band ist gewachsen, hat ihren Stil weiter entwickelt, ihre Wurzeln aber nicht verleugnet. Dabei stößt man gelegentlich bei seinen Fans an, wenn man am gewohnten Sound schraubt, aber aus meiner Sicht hat das Ausprobieren geholfen, die Band so erfolgreich zu machen. Auch ihre vielen Kollaborationen mit anderen Künstlern auch außerhalb der Mittelalter- und Metal-Szene hat ihnen geholfen, Genregrenzen zu sprengen. Sei es musikalisch (z.B. mit SWISS UND DIE ANDEREN oder PEYTON PARRISH) oder inhaltlich z.B. mit Inspirationen und Anlehnungen an viele Rollenspiele oder bekannte Videospiele (z.B. GOD OF WAR). Denn die Themen Gaming und natürlich Fantasy spielen bei einem Großteil der Fans im Hobby ja auch eine Rolle. Da sind SALTATIO MORTIS einfach den Schritt mitgegangen, siehe ihr letztes Albumprojekt „Finterwacht“, eine Kooperation mit dem deutschen Rollenspielklassiker DAS SCHWARZE AUGE.

Und was wäre die Musik von SALTATIO MORTIS ohne die Livedarbietung. Im Herbst gehen sie auf große „Weltenwanderer Tour“, die größte Headline-Tour ihrer bisherigen Karriere, wo sie mit ihren Fans die ganze Karriere Revue passieren lassen, darunter fünf Nummer-1-Alben.

Mat McNerney (BEASTMILK, GRAVE PLEASURES, HEXVESSEL) hat ein neues Projekt: Seine Post Punk-Band SCORPION MILK veröffentlicht am 19. September 2025 das Album „Slime Of Time“.

Reinhören kann man in die Video-Single ‘Another Day Another Abyss’:

Neben Mat McNerney sind auf „Slime of the Times“ unter anderem auch diese KünstlerInnen zu hören: Tor Sjödén (VIAGRA BOYS) am Schlagzeug, Nate Newton (CONVERGE, CAVE IN) am Bass sowie als Special Guests Big Paul Ferguson von KILLING JOKE und Will Gould von CREEPER.  „Slime of the Times“ wurde von McNerney produziert und im Pine Hill Studio in Finnland aufgenommen, gemischt wurde es von Wayne Adams bei Bear Bites Horse in London. Das Mastering erfolgte in den Abbey Road Studios in London.

 

Über sein neues Projekt sagt Mat McNerney:

„In der täglichen Flut von Katastrophen, Schlagzeilen, Taubheit und Hilflosigkeit sollten wir standhaft bleiben. Aber das hat zwei Seiten: Der einzige Weg, um durch den Abgrund zu kommen, ist, selbst zu ihm zu werden. Um durch die Dunkelheit zu gehen, muss man einen Teil davon in sich tragen.“

Die finnische Progressive / Alternative Metal-Formation ROYAL SORROW hat mit „Release Your Shadow“ eine weitere Single veröffentlicht.

Zuvor teilten ROYAL SORROW die Tracks „Samsara„, „Give In„,  „Evergreen“ und „Metrograve“ bei YouTube. Alle Tracks stammen vom kommenden Album „Innerdeeps“, das am 26. September 2025 auf CD, Vinyl sowie digital veröffentlicht wird.

ROYAL SORROW haben im Herbst 2024 einen Vertrag mit InsideOut Music abgeschlossen. Mit dem neuen Label im Rücken war es auch Zeit, die komplette Band umzukrempeln:

„Als wir bei InsideOutMusic unterschrieben, war das auch der Beginn einer neuen Ära. Obwohl wir uns schon seit unserer Kindheit kennen, war es an der Zeit, alles, was wir kannten, neu zu gestalten: den Look, die Optik und die Musik selbst. Die Post-Hardcore / Metalcore-Band ELWOOD STRAY hat mit „Nevermind“ eine weitere neue Single mitsamt Video-Clip veröffentlicht.

„‚Nevermind‘ ist eine kraftvolle Reise der Selbstfindung und Transformation“, erklärt die Band. „Der Text handelt davon, sich von einer falschen Identität zu befreien, die von Bedauern, Masken und Erwartungen geprägt ist. Es geht darum, alte Schichten abzuwerfen, sich selbst zu stellen und endlich das Licht hereinzulassen.“

Davor hat die Band nach „Evolve“ mit „Shattered“ eine weitere Single mitsamt Video-Clip veröffentlicht.

„In ‚Shattered‘ geht es um den Umgang mit den Nachwirkungen von Verrat und dem Schmerz von unwiderruflichen Fehlern“, teilt die Band mit. „Der Song erforscht den Kampf mit Schuldgefühlen, das Gefühl, verloren und gefangen zu sein, und dennoch weiter voranzuschreiten und zu versuchen, mit dem Gewicht ihrer Handlungen fertig zu werden.“

Die Psychedelic Doom Metal-Band LITANIA hat nach dem Opener „Manasi Devi“ mit „Ghunghru“ einen zweiten Track ihres neuen und selbstbetitelten Albums veröffentlicht. Es ist der erste Release der internationalen Band aus Italien und Serbien, die zudem von altem hindustanischem Gesang und Spiel (mit Instrumenten wie Sitar, Dilruba und Harmonium) inspiriert ist.

Die Heavy Metal-Band ELD VARG hat mit „Destroyer“ ein neues Album angekündigt. Es ist nach „One Man Army“ (2021) das zweite Album der Schotten und beschäftigt sich mit den Themen Widrigkeiten, Verwandlung und dem Aufstieg aus der Asche der Vergangenheit.

„Das Allbum wurde in einer Zeit der Unsicherheit geschrieben“, sagt Frontmann Ollie Noakes. „Es beschäftigt sich damit, wie man Schwierigkeiten überwindet und ohne klaren Weg voranschreitet.“

Die Metalcore-Band ABBIE FALLS hat einen Labeldeal bei Out Of Line Music unterschrieben. Nach „Hellbound“ gibt es mit „Black Void“ nun eine weitere neue Single.

Erstes Zeugnis dieser Zusammenarbeit war der Release der Single „Purge„, welche die Tschechen aus Prag gemeinsam mit BREAKDOWN OF SANITY eingespielt haben. Danach hat die Band mit „Victim“ eine weitere Single veröffentlicht.

„Der Song fängt die tschechisch-slawische Depression ein. Es ist eine unerbittliche Reise durch innere Konflikte, die Gefühle des Gefangenseins, des Unverstandenwerdens und der Frustration thematisiert. Der Text ist durchtränkt von Rebellion, mit gewalttätigen, viszeralen Bildern, die sich den selbstzerstörerischen Kräften im Inneren entgegenstellen“, erklärt die Band.

Hailing from the hazy backstreets of Montreal’s indie underworld, SEAVER unveils their debut EP, Impermanence, released on July 25, 2025, via Velouria Recordz. This mesmerizing collision of gauzy new wave melodies and post-punk drive marks a notable debut.

SEAVER’s lineup, featuring Richard Bunze on guitar and vocals, Sabrina Côté-Poitras oscillating effortlessly between bass and guitar, drummer and vocalist Michel Defoy, and bassist Kevin Hills, reads like a who’s who of Montreal’s indie circuit. Members boast past gigs in local favourites like The Ember Glows, Room Control, Scene Noir, Repo, and Boar God, fusing seasoned prowess into a fresh wave of atmospheric intensity.

Impermanence is refreshingly direct, oscillating from immersive waves of reverb-heavy guitars to tightly wound basslines. The EP is equal parts nocturnal cruise and moody contemplation, a vibrant swirl of effects pedal textures held taut by restless energy.

Rebel Cure emerges as a captivating fusion of Interpol, the Pixies, The Sound, and Snake Corps, weaving together soaring melodic guitars and passionate backing vocals. Its lyrics grapple with the paradox of rebellion, recognizing the necessity yet mournful cost of revolution, punctuated sharply with a bittersweet homage to Bowie’s glam-era spirit. Between The Rainbows, meanwhile, infused with driving yet shadowy guitars and bass, channels the spirit of Joy Division and Bauhaus, exploring emotional aftermath through a lyrical landscape punctuated by loss and inevitability. Its buoyant “la-la-las” cloak deeper truths, turning a seemingly simple melody into an emotional echo chamber.

The poignant Strangers (Evermore) feels like a new wave soundtrack scored to a pivotal moment in an 80s film, landing somewhere between The Cult, Scorpions, and Clan of Xymox, bringing an emotional gravity to the EP that paints a vivid portrait of love’s aftermath with a moving vocal delivery whose earnestness is nothing short of disarming with its passion and vulnerability. And with its lyrics, it maps the terrain of heartbreak and resignation, juxtaposing stark loneliness against memories too vivid to fade, ultimately arriving at an acceptance tinged with sorrowful wisdom.

On the band’s genesis, guitarist Richard Bunze explains, “Things came together quite organically. Kevin and I were in another band together, which folded. But we realized we wanted to continue on. Out of the blue I got a message from Sabrina who had left her band, and asked if I was interested in starting a shoegaze band! I said, funny enough I’m just starting a new band with Kevin and would she like to jam with us to see how things go. Our then drummer had left to pursue other things. So we were thinking of drummers we knew. Firstly, who were good, and secondly, who we got along with and liked as people. Michel made the top of the list! He quickly realized how serious we were after hearing a few songs and we became SEAVER in July of 2024…and off we went. It has been a very creative and free flowing process for us ever since. Really good vibes.”eparted, Michel was our first choice. He caught our drift quickly, and from July 2024 onward, it’s been nothing but good vibes and creativity.”

That creativity blossomed vividly at Velouria Studios under François Marsan’s guidance. “Recording our first songs with François – with a helping hand from Bitou – at Velouria Studios was such a blast,” Michel Defoy enthuses. “Cool digs, super gear, massive sound… and the lad manning the decks really knows his stuff. Frank also understood us as a band and helped us get to where we wanted to go sonically. It was fantastic to hear our music go from monochrome to technicolour glory! Can’t wait to go back for the next chapter!”

With Impermanence, SEAVER makes a powerful entrance, proving they’re a band finely tuned to emotion’s spectrum, skilled in translating complexity into resonant, unforgettable songs.

More Than This, Roxy Music’s elegant 1982 single off of the band’s seminal final album, Avalon, slips into your ears like the first streaks of dawn after a night you’ll never forget; a perfect moment stretched infinitely. Bryan Ferry’s velvet croon drifts effortlessly over swirling synths and lush guitars, evoking that universal ache of longing, of reaching for something always just out of grasp. It’s the sound of memories becoming dreams, bittersweet snapshots bathed in suave sophistication. Few songs capture the elusive promise of romance quite like this masterpiece, each note a gentle whisper reminding us life’s greatest mysteries lie just beyond our fingertips, always leaving us yearning for more.

More Than This finds an unexpected echo in the hands of Austin’s post-punk romantics, Single Lash. Known for blending delicate hooks with sheets of textured guitar, Single Lash transforms Ferry’s wistful ballad into a bracing, windswept ride along the coast, waves breaking fiercely against the shore. Nicolas Nadeau’s voice floats like cigarette smoke at midnight: restrained, knowing, deeply attuned to the song’s quiet drama, while Neil Lord’s lead guitar traces patterns of subtle turbulence.

Their take on this classic feels effortless, respectful without bowing to imitation. The key is different, the approach more languid, and there is a lovely string section at the end. The rhythm section, anchored by bassist Bacio Notzon and drummer Rodolfo Smith-Villareal III, delivers a muscular pulse beneath the atmospheric layers, reshaping the track into a sharper, dream-infused journey. There’s a compelling tension here: the serene yearning of Ferry’s lyrics meets the band’s jagged, hypnotic guitar currents.
