„Das Album  hat endlich sein schwarzes Cover bekommen! Als ich die Musik schrieb, hatte ich das Gefühl, dass diese Songs hell in ihrer Dunkelheit leuchten. Ich war mir nicht sicher, ob ich das Album ‚Shining‘ oder ‚Shining Dark‘ nennen sollte, es fühlte sich beides richtig an. Nun haben wir endlich beide Versionen.“

BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME  veröffentlichen am 12. September 2025 ihr neues Album „The Blue Nowhere“ via InsideOutMusic. Die Veröffentlichung ist gleichzeitig das erste Album der Band bei diesem Label.

Mit „Absent Therearfter“ präsentieren BTBAM eine zweite Single.

Als erste Single teilte die Progressive Rock Band ein Video zu „Things We Tell Ourselves In The Dark“:

Bassist/Keyboarder Dan Briggs berichtet vom Songwriting:

„Es ist einer der seltenen Songs, die ich mit dem Bass und dieser grundlegenden funkigen Idee begonnen habe, wobei ich gleichzeitig eine ziemlich geradlinige Melodie im Hintergrund beibehalten habe, egal wie dicht der Rhythmus wurde. Ich liebe es, wenn Arrangements sich so anfühlen, als würde man eine Seite umblättern und in eine andere Dimension gelangen, aber ich fand es wichtig, dass dieser Song sich trotz seiner Dynamik nahtlos anfühlt. Selbst wenn es heavy wird, fand ich es im Kern lustig, dass man immer noch das Gefühl hat, dass es Prince‘ Band spielt, und dass es funky bleibt.“

„The Blue Nowhere“, produziert von Jamie King, ist auch das erste Album von BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME, auf dem eine Streicher- und Bläsersektion zu hören ist.

Im Februar 2026 folgt dann eine Europatour zum neuen Album. Konzerte sind in Frankfurt, Hamburg, Bochum, Stuttgart und Leipzig geplant. In der Schweiz gibt es Shows in Aarau sowie Genf (Termine s. unten).

Die Alternative Metal / Modern Metalcore-Band HUMANKIND hat mit „Lovely“ ein Cover des gleichnamigen BILLIE EILISH-Songs veröffentlicht. Der Track ist eine Kollaboration mit ENEMY INSIDE-Sängerin Nastassja Giulia.

Zuletzt präsentierte man zudem die Single „Humans„.

„Der Song reflektiert kritisch unsere Rolle als Menschheit auf dem Planeten Erde und wie wir es immer wieder schaffen, einander und unsere Umwelt zu schädigen, bis eines Tages nichts mehr übrig sein wird. Es stellt zwei zentrale Fragen: Wohin wird uns das führen? Wer wird uns retten?“, erklärt die Band.

Davor hat die Band mit „The Darkness I Own“ eine weitere Nummer mitsamt Video-Clip veröffentlicht.

Zuvor erschien im Dezember 2024 der Track „Fed Up„.

„Dieser Song wurde aus einem tiefen Zustand heraus geschrieben, in dem wir die gleiche Folter und Hilflosigkeit nicht immer wieder ertragen wollten“, kommentiert die Band. „Es ist entscheidend, den Kreislauf genau dann zu durchbrechen, wenn wir beschlossen haben, neue Wege zu gehen und das nächste Kapitel zu schreiben, um die Person zu werden, die wir sein sollten.“

Die Songs folgen auf das 2023er-Debütalbum „An End, Once and for All“ und wurden von Christoph Wieczorek (ANNISOKAY) bei Sawdust Recordings produziert.

Wir alle sind miteinander verbunden: Jede Entscheidung, jeder Kommentar, jede Handlung hat Auswirkungen auf unser Umfeld – sogar im globalen Kontext. Der zugrundeliegende Gedanke ist durchaus spannend, doch scheitern muss er diesmal an der Umsetzung. RISE AGAINST stellen sich auch auf „Ricochet“ den schwierigen Themen, den Herausforderungen unserer Gesellschaft und den Stolpersteinen, die tagtäglich auf uns lauern.

Allein der rebellische Geist ihres Frühwerks kommt den US-Amerikanern auf dem zehnten Studioalbum endgültig abhanden. Statt Melodic Hardcore und Punk-Attitüde erklingen die zwölf Tracks über weite Strecken müde und angepasst. Harmloser Radio-Rock verbirgt sich hinter „Black Crown“ – immerhin mit charismatischem Gastpart von Andy Hull (MANCHESTER ORCHESTRA) – oder „Us Against The World“, während das lustlos heruntergespielte „I Want It All“ geradezu aus der Zeit gefallen zu scheint.

„Ricochet“ hat wenige Höhepunkte, dafür aber eine Produktion mit Demo-Charakter
Höhepunkte sind tatsächlich rar gesät und finden sich zunächst im Titeltrack, wo RISE AGAINST ihre Komfortzone verlassen, um den gefühlten Weltschmerz mit tanzbarem Rhythmus zu verschmelzen. Zum Ende hin wiederum berührt das akustische „Gold Long Gone“ mit seiner mahnenden Botschaft an die Jugend und der falschen Versprechen, die ihr noch teuer zu stehen kommen werden.

Doch selbst diese Tracks leiden unter der fragwürdigen Produktion, die „Ricochet“ bestenfalls Demo-Charakter verleiht. Dank diverser Filter klingt Tim McIlraths Stimme als hätte er das Album mit einem Dosentelefon eingesungen, während der restliche Mix anno 2025 von jeder zweiten Heimproduktion in den Schatten gestellt wird. So platt und kraftlos wie Gitarren und Schlagzeug hier klingen, darf gerne die Frage aufgeworfen werden, wohin denn das ganze Aufnahmebudget geflossen ist.

Weil aber auch sonst die musikalische Vision kaum zu erkennen ist, erscheinen RISE AGAINST geradezu als Schatten ihrer selbst. Verwunderlich ist das vor allem angesichts der zugrundeliegenden Thematik: Die Vernetzung unserer Realitäten waren der Ausgangspunkt für „Ricochet“; wie aber kann man dann so weit entfernt von dem sein, was Band und Fangemeinde in der Vergangenheit so innig zusammengeschweißt hat?

OWLS is an American project that has released several singles in recent years. With “Death Games”, the project unveils its debut full-length album, an eight-track release that firmly establishes its sonic identity.

Drawing heavily on the Cold-Wave influences of the ’80s, OWLS delivers a record that feels both icy and tormented. The vintage textures emphasize its retro character, while unexpected acid sequences add a surprising edge. The vocals—thin and at times deliberately sterile—fit seamlessly within the genre’s aesthetic.

The album moves between heavier and more atmospheric compositions, offering a dynamic listening experience. “Death &” stands out for its gradual buildup and hypnotic, trance-like finale, while the closing track, serving as an outro, feels somewhat underwhelming by comparison.

Overall, OWLS presents an intriguing project that deserves the attention of any music lover in search of fresh and compelling sensations. (Rating:8).

Montreal’s Automelodi returns with Cavallo, a video as spontaneous as it is spellbinding, a meditation on futility and false dawns delivered through the contours of Francophone synth-pop. Frontman Xavier Paradis has always treated language and sound as equal conspirators, and here he lets the image step into the conversation, setting his music against a raw, salt-bitten stage.

The song itself conjures a wounded horse, forever racing yet never arriving. Its phrases carry the ache of disappointment, of illusions clung to and dissolved. Over sleek, Italo-inflected rhythms, Paradis sings of scars and jealous waters, of an animal tethered and adrift. That duality – the gallop and the fall, the drive and the collapse – charges the track with a volatile energy that spills into the visual. With Cavallo, Automelodi has given us a hymn for ruins and horizons, where post-punk electronics meet ancient stone and the restless air insists on carrying every note a little further than expected.

The video, captured during a day off on tour, unfolds on Pomègues, one of the Frioul islands off Marseille. What begins as a casual detour becomes a cinematic dispatch from the edge of the Mediterranean. The limestone cliffs, pale and commanding, catch the late sun and glow with a muted fire, their surfaces serving as mirrors for the emotional terrain of the song. You see no contrived storyline, no staged performance; just landscape, movement, and the restless push of the elements.

At the center is the Mistral, that relentless wind known for reshaping moods and tempers alike. Hawes’ lens (filmmaker Kate Hawes) makes the invisible force visible, the air itself becoming the restless protagonist. Grasses bend, gulls slice the sky, bodies lean into resistance. The human presence, slight and improvised, seems fragile next to this constant rush, echoing the horse’s futility in the lyrics. The beauty lies in its simplicity. The budget barely exceeded the price of a ferry ticket, yet the result feels vast, charged by nature’s scale and indifference. There’s a sly resonance in staging this meditation on despair so near to the Château d’If, where Dumas once trapped his fictional prisoner, The Count of Monte Cristo. In Cavallo, confinement is more abstract: an endless loop of striving, crashing, rising again.

The Cavallo EP will include five tracks (with the title song among them) pressed on 12-inch vinyl (YCR/208), along with a digital bonus remix of Cavallo by Ortrotasce. Released by the German imprint Young & Cold Records, the EP will be available for pre-order on August 22, with the physical edition expected in early November 2025. These five songs mark Xavier Paradis’s renewed focus on Automelodi after the early post-pandemic years spent mixing and producing for artists such as Laura Krieg, Bootblacks, and The Harrow. One track also features experimental sound artist James Nicholas Dumile Goddard (Skin Tone, Egyptian Cotton Arkestra, and more) on saxophone.

The cover art and design were created by longtime Automelodi friend and collaborator Jean Lorenzo (aka Silent EM), for whom Paradis also mixed the Real Life LP in 2024.

The Cavallo EP will be available on 12-inch vinyl from Young & Cold Records on November 12, 2025

The Children’s Crusade steps into the fray with Black, Bruised, and Broken Down, a raw Wax Trax! Style industrial rock record that feels like a series of wounds written into circuitry. Born from Chicago’s underground circuits, Jason Schmal’s one-man studio project, bolstered by a full live band, channels the reckless voltage of the city’s industrial heritage while lacing it with fractured intimacy. Black, Bruised, and Broken Down is a record of ruin and resilience, its bruises worn proudly as proof of survival, its wreckage alive and hardwired to wreak havoc.

The opener, Breaking Down, sets the tone without words. A bruised instrumental stitched together with field recordings, it recalls the disorientation of wandering through a city alley at dawn, uncertain whether the noise is machinery, memory, or menace. This blurred sense of reality persists throughout the album, each track both personal confession and mechanical exorcism.

Mechanical Love drives with relentless repetition, a hymn to devotion turned corrosive. Desire spirals into despair as the song examines the paradox of clinging to something artificial, the devotion binding even as it destroys. The hook grips like a loop of wire, impossible to shake, looping deeper into ruin. From there, All You Take From Me lands with sharpened edges, circling betrayal and manipulation. Its refrain pounds like a hammer: justice spelled out in relentless cadence, each blow a reminder that exploitation comes with consequences.

The record grows darker with Gag Order, a song about building walls that collapse under the weight of temptation. Thrones, crowns, and veils of shame adorn the lyrics, transforming private guilt into stark theatre. For You (Pre-Cursor) drags the descent further, steeped in self-erasure and corrosive sacrifice. The voice feels buried under its own collapse, mourning the disappearance of the self.

Between these eruptions, Fade Away offers another instrumental that lingers like a fever dream. Sinister, strange, and plodding, it carries the dread of being trapped in a nightmare that never quite resolves. That sense of suspension bleeds into For You, where devotion curdles into desperation. Pleas and promises unravel into anguish, leaving the song haunted by broken vows and wasted faith.

The album closes with Confess, the most unforgiving track of all. Here, self-loathing, disillusionment, and spiritual collapse hit hardest. The sense of being a “broken machine” rings through with cold finality, each line steeped in betrayal and corrosion.

Snowbeasts have always sounded like a broadcast from another frequency: wired with menace, yet laced with strange beauty. From Providence, Rhode Island, the duo returns with the haunting Death Dance, the first single from their new album Dire Days.

The title alone suggests catastrophe at the club door, and the music carries that weight. A low-slung EBM bassline drives it forward like steel wheels on wet rails, relentless and hypnotic. Above it, Elizabeth Virosa’s voice cuts through like a spell, steady and spectral, the human element threading through machines set to maximum voltage.

Death Dance arrives in two forms: the original, all pounding rhythm and uneasy grandeur, and a remix tailored for the floor, sharper, colder, more immediate. The track’s architecture is skeletal yet immense, every beat a hammer against the body, every vocal line an invocation. It’s less a song than a ritual, a dance where each step is tethered to inevitability.

Snowbeasts extend that tension into the accompanying self-directed video. Filmed in Paris’s Catacombs and Père Lachaise Cemetery, it transforms the City of Light into a Realm of Portent. They move with minimalist precision, their movements urgent, almost panicked. Kaleidoscope and prism effects fracture the images into unstable visions, as if time itself has splintered into a nightmarish blood red. The juxtaposition is startling: gothic fashion set against skull-lined corridors, the body framed as both celebration and decay.

It plays like a memento mori set to strobe; an art piece masquerading as a music video. Paris, with its haunted corridors and monuments to mortality, becomes the perfect backdrop. The dancers look imprisoned and liberated all at once, a paradox that mirrors the song’s core: ecstasy entwined with dread.

Their latest transmission from Winter Haven, Florida, Love Pedals, out now via Little Cloud Records and Floravinyl Records, moves like phosphorescence across black water. It is an album born of collision: shoegaze dreamstates tangled with the molten flow of ambient and the narcotic drift of psychedelia. Kim Field and John Cep, the duo at its heart, draw on a shared history that stretches back to their Soundpool days, where shoegaze met disco under a mirrorball. Now, with Love Pedals, they scatter pollen into the cosmos and let it fall where it may.

Shining Yellow, the record’s luminous centerpiece, arrives like meteors breaking the stratosphere: feedback turned to firework trails, chords stretched until they resemble entire atmospheres. Field’s voice hovers above it all, distant yet tender, like a transmission intercepted through astral static. Cep’s production stretches space wide open, painting with delay and distortion until the edges blur, then blur again. James Aparicio’s mix sharpens the haze into something that cuts as much as it caresses. Together, they sculpt an track that feels like a broadcast from a parallel future: equal parts beauty and ruin, velvet and voltage.

The video, directed by Shana Nielsen (Sha Sabi of United Ghosts), is a dazzling spectacle where the ordinary mutates into the uncanny: a lawn becomes a stage for surreal pageantry, a giant caterpillar serves as transport through warped suburban Eden, and a house dissolves into end-of-days reverie. AI multiplies the band into kaleidoscopic clones caught between bliss and collapse. The effect is equal parts carnival and nightmare, like Ray Bradbury’s Something Wicked This Way Comes rewritten under strobe lights.

Beneath its veneer, Shining Yellow carries an unspoken warning. It whispers about control hidden in the circuitry of pleasure, about systems designed to devour rather than nourish. Soylent Green, here, is no longer food – but a metaphor for the endless appetite of spectacle. The song itself defies that mechanism, however, offering something achingly human: sound turned into bloom, memory pressed into vibration.

Black Hall (Tanner Dean and Errol Kern) aren’t hiding in the underground anymore; they’re dragging the smoke, the neon, the broken glass of their influences into a track that feels like a declaration. Their latest synth pop single, Hypocrite, is a broadcast from the wreckage of a love gone sour, a signal wired with heartbreak and precision.

What sets Hypocrite apart is the duo’s balance of cool sophistication and raw edge. The production gleams, but it never loses its bite. The atmosphere recalls long nights in clubs where the music feels dangerous, where it locks you in with a bassline and refuses to let go until dawn. Italo-disco ghosts linger in the mix, post-punk scars ripple beneath the surface, and psych-rock swirls flicker in the corners—yet the song feels unmistakably theirs.

The synth line slithers and then strikes, while the drum machines march forward with brutal discipline. Yet within that rigid framework, Dean and Kern allow emotion to pour through the cracks. It’s a track that dances through disappointment with precision and poise, leaving you waiting for whatever comes next from these LA-based artists, who clearly know the charge of heartbreak can power more than memory…it can power a song that cuts like this.

Kiss me from beyond the grave
Oakland’s Sympathy Flowers formed in 2023 from members of beloved anarcho post-punk groups such as ADRENOCHROME and ÖTZI, with a mission stitched from unrest and unruly desire. Their debut full-length, a 12” 45 rpm LP Dreams of Lurking Fear, arriving in September 2025 on Cellofame Records, is a furious bouquet of punk resistance wired with anarcho urgency, darkened by death rock textures, and sharpened into restless, jagged rhythms.

The band lace their intensity with a crooked grin, indulging in Garfield ephemera and horror/sci-fi kitsch. Their theatrics heighten rather than soften the political charge, wielding absurdity as another weapon against control. Amid dread, they inject humor; amid heaviness, a gleeful kick. The result collides with the force of early Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Damned, and Dead Kennedys. Sympathy Flowers writes songs for collective motion…sweaty rooms where resistance finds its pulse under flashing lights and battered speakers.

At the core, Gina Marie’s icy voice is a call to arms: unyielding, clear, and brimming with conviction. Adam’s guitar slashes through the mix in serrated bursts, while Tash’s basslines churn like subterranean engines. Dusty propels it all forward with militant precision, his drums both unrelenting and danceable, proving that revolution can move to rhythm as much as rage.

“Veil” drapes love in a mourning shroud— a devotion bound to loss, yet undimmed by death. It lingers where fading breath meets aching memory, tracing pain shared and solitary wandering. Across the veil that parts the living from the dead, desire endures, clinging even as everything else dissolves.

Musically, the track channels the tenebrous deathrock energy of TSOL and Rubella Ballet while reaching toward the spectral pull of gothic rock luminaries Skeletal Family. Urgency builds without collapse; riffs coil and strike, percussion hammers with intent, and the low-end growl presses against the chest like a physical force.

Es ist fast wie eine zweite Pubertät: Nach dem aggressiven und überraschend harten „Of Kingdom And Crown“ (2022) entdecken MACHINE HEAD plötzlich ihre Nu- bzw. Groove-Metal-Phase neu. „Unatøned“ ist ein ungleich eingängigeres Album, das zuvorderst auf – wie es die Genre-Bezeichnung schon sagt – Groove und einprägsame Hooks setzt. Darüber täuscht vielleicht noch das einleitende Thrash-Riffing in „Atømic Revelatiøns“ hinweg, doch spätestens im Refrain packt Mastermind Robb Flynn vergleichsweise sanften Klargesang aus.

Gerade die Hooks prägen die elfte Studioplatte in entscheidendem Maße: Der Singalong „Bønescraper“ geht sofort ins Ohr, die Powerballade „Nøt Løng Før This Wørld“ überrascht mit Melancholie und „These Scars Wøn’t Define Us“ tauscht die nach vorne drängende Strophe gegen einen groß angelegten Kehrvers. Geschrieben sind derlei Stücke natürlich für ein modernes Publikum: Den Biss des Vorgängers tauschen MACHINE HEAD gegen potenzielle Live-Hymnen und arenataugliche Strukturen.

MACHINE HEAD setzen auf „Unatøned“ verstärkt auf Groove und eingängige Refrains
Glaubwürdig bleiben die US-Amerikaner trotzdem, eben weil sie bereits in der Vergangenheit jene Subgenres erkundet haben. Spalten dürfte „Unatøned“ die Gemüter dennoch, denn selbst „Unbøund“ transportiert seine Heaviness lieber mit Chugging und Bending als technischer Komplexität, um den groovebetonten Charakter des Gesamtwerks zu wahren. Ähnlich verhält es sich mit „Addicted Tø Pain“, das die Daumenschrauben ebenfalls etwas anzieht.

Darüber hinaus verschreiben sich MACHINE HEAD dem zugänglicheren Kurs nahezu bedingungslos. Eine Affinität zu jener Ära des Quartetts ist somit Grundvoraussetzung, um mit „Unatøned“ wirklich glücklich zu werden – dann aber ist es ein durchaus probates Mittel, um sich eine knappe Dreiviertelstunde lang wieder jung und frisch zu fühlen.

Die Mittelalter / Power Metal-Band FEUERSCHWANZ stellt ihr neues Album „Knightclub“ mit einem witeren Video vor und hat ein animiertes Video zu „Sam The Brave“ geteilt.

Auch einen Clip zu „Valhalla“ kann man sich online ansehen. Hier ist darüber hinaus Gastsängerin DORO zu hören.

Ebenfalls verfügbar ist das Video zu „Das 11. Gebot“. Der Song wurde 2020 veröffentlicht, nun gibt es eine Neuaufnahme. Man stellte außerdem einen Clip zum K-Pop-Cover „Gagnam Style“ bei YouTube vor. Im Original stammt das Stück vom koreanischen Sänger PSY.

Die Nummer ist nach dem Video zum Titeltrack bei YouTube die zweite Auskopplung der kommenden Platte. „Knight Club“ selbst war auch der Beitrag, mit dem die Gruppe am diesjährigen Eurovision Song Contest teilnehmen wollte. Bis ins Finale des deutschen Vorentscheids konnten FEUERSCHWANZ mit „Knightclub“ einziehen, dann war jedoch aufgrund einer Jury-Entscheidung Schluss.

Das neue Studiowerk umschreibt die Formation als Fortführung der bisherigen Scheiben:

„Knightclub – für uns ist es eine konsequente Fortsetzung unserer bisherigen Alben, thematisch und musikalisch auf die nächste Stufe gehoben! Erwartet etwas wahrhaft Episches, Wildes und geradezu Verrücktes! Dieses Album hat für jeden etwas zu bieten: für Fans von großer Fantasie, Heldengeschichten und ausschweifenden Partys ebenso wie für Liebhaber wuchtiger Gitarrenriffs und lebendiger Folk-Instrumente. Werde Teil des Knightclubs und begleite uns auf diesem nächsten Schritt unserer unvergleichlichen Reise!“

„Knightclub“ wurde von Simon Michael produziert, das Mastering übernahm Jacob Hansen. Für das Artwork engagierte die Band Peter Sallai. Erscheinen wird das Album am 22. August 2025 auf CD, Vinyl sowie digital. Ursprünglich war die Veröffentlichung für 25. Juli 2025 angesetzt. Mit „Lords Of Fyre“ steht darüber hinaus eine weitere Hörprobe bereit.

Die Street Punk-Band BOOZE & GLORY hat ihr sechstes Album „Whiskey Tango Foxtrot“ für 12. September 2025 angekündigt. Erscheinen wird die Platte via Concrete Jungle Records. Die Single „Brace Up“ gewährt vorab einen Höreindruck.

Außerdem steht „Boys Will Be Boys“ als Clip bei YouTube bereit.

Im November kommt die Formation dann auch nach Deutschland, um das neue Material live vorzustellen.
