04.09.2025 - Data, Desire, and Distortion — Nine Inch Nails’ Debut Video for “As Alive As You Need Me To Be”

The way it makes me feel, infection
It’s almost like a tongue on the back of my neck
I never had a choice, connection
I never had a chance to catch my breath
Nine Inch Nails return with a jolt of distorted electricity in their new video for “As Alive As You Need Me To Be.” Making its debut back in July, the track is pulled from the soundtrack album the band scored for Tron: Ares. Here, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross plunge headlong into fever-dream abstraction, their presence refracted through monochrome static and crimson haze. The video is both a milestone—the first proper Nine Inch Nails video to feature Ross, and the first on-screen appearance of Reznor since 2013’s “Came Back Haunted.”

Directed by Maxime Quoilin, the film seethes with tension: hands clawing from the void, barren landscapes gnawed at by distortion, and images that crack apart like damaged tape. Shot by cinematographer Xiaolong G Liu, with edits from Quoilin and Aloïs Champougny, and augmented by @1080p.world’s VFX, the video burns like an analog transmission caught between channels, as if NIN themselves were struggling to break free from the interference.

Musically, “As Alive As You Need Me To Be” lunges forward on jagged synths, sharp percussion, and a pummeling low end that channels both retro-futuristic 1980s electro and the serrated edge of Nine Inch Nails’ trademark industrial rock. Reznor’s vocals are ferocious, breaking through distortion-pressed choruses while ghostly, vocoded layers underscore a descent where consciousness is downloaded and compressed digitally. Yet the track feels mechanical yet feverishly human, collapsing the distance between steel and skin. Lyrically, it is a plea for connection in the midst of suffocation: intimacy described as infection, desire consuming the space between two bodies until there is no doubt or escape. When Reznor cries, “Give me something to believe in / All these hands have got a hold of me,” the song becomes both a hymn and a confession.

Watch the video for “As Alive As You Need Me To Be” below:

Nine Inch Nails are currently in the midst of their **Peel It Back 2025 tour**, their first full-scale outing since 2022. The run has been hailed as a career-spanning triumph, with critics praising both its intensity and theatricality. Across the dates, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have unleashed a blistering 20-song setlist that threads together feral new material with fan favorites like “Wish,” “The Hand That Feeds,” “Closer,” “March of the Pigs,” David Bowie’s “I’m Afraid of Americans,” and the crushing closer “Hurt.” Despite the intensity, there have been flashes of levity: at their Philadelphia show, Reznor broke into laughter mid-set when Santa suddenly appeared, crowd-surfing across the pit—an image as absurd as it was unforgettable. With Boys Noize in support, the band is storming through arenas with a show that balances raw aggression, spectral beauty, and a love of their fans, old and new.

03.09.2025 - “A Soul for Sale” — Morrissey Seeks Buyers for His Rights to The Smiths

Morrissey has announced that he is looking to sell off “all of his business interests” in The Smiths to any interested party or investor. The former Smiths frontman declared in a statement on his website that he’s been “burnt out by any and all connections” to his ex-bandmates and has “no choice” but to sever ties. In what he’s dubbing the “A Soul for Sale” offer, Morrissey says the deal would encompass everything from the band’s name and iconic artwork to his share of song rights and royalties.

Morrissey’s message – posted September 3rd on the Morrissey Central site – finds the singer venting that he’s had “enough of malicious associations” with guitarist Johnny Marr, drummer Mike Joyce, and the late bassist Andy Rourke. “With my entire life I have paid my rightful dues to these songs and these images,” Morrissey wrote, adding that he now wants to “live disassociated from those who wish me nothing but ill will and destruction.” adding that “The songs are me – they are no one else – but they bring with them business communications that go to excessive lengths to create as much dread and spite year after year.” He then signs off by imploring “serious investors” to make their inquiry email — eaves7760@gmail.com.

Everything Must Go: What’s Included in the Sale
In his announcement, Morrissey rattled off a comprehensive list of assets he’s willing to part with — essentially, his portion of the Smiths’ entire legacy. According to the singer, the for-sale package includes his share of:

The Smiths’ name (as created by Morrissey)

All The Smiths artwork (as created by Morrissey)

The band’s merchandising rights

All Smiths songs (lyrics and music)

All synchronization/licensing rights

The Smiths’ master recordings

All publishing contractual rights

No asking price was given, but the 64-year-old vocalist signaled that any offer would be entertained in hopes of a clean break.

But there’s an immediate complication: Morrissey only ever owned about half of The Smiths to begin with. Guitarist Johnny Marr holds the legal rights to the other 50% of the band’s music and brand. In fact, Marr registered “The Smiths” as a trademark in 2024 after discovering it hadn’t been filed, later offering Morrissey joint ownership of it — but only if Morrissey signed the necessary paperwork. That leaves any prospective buyer with, at best, Morrissey’s half-interest, raising questions about how much practical control or value the deal would provide.

The Smiths’ messy legal history is long established. Drummer Mike Joyce successfully sued Morrissey and Marr in the 1990s over royalties, with a judge memorably labeling Morrissey “devious, truculent and unreliable.” Joyce has just published a memoir, The Drums, revisiting his side of the story — another reminder that the band’s legacy has generated as much courtroom drama as it has musical reverence.

The timing of Morrissey’s offer comes as he continues to spar publicly with Johnny Marr over The Smiths’ legacy. Last year, Morrissey claimed that promoter AEG had extended a “lucrative offer” for a Smiths reunion tour — an offer Morrissey says he accepted, only for Marr to reject it. Marr, for his part, has said he turned down a huge payday to re-form the group, citing irreconcilable differences with his former bandmate.

More recently, Morrissey accused Marr of blocking a planned greatest-hits compilation called Smiths Rule OK!, along with a 40th anniversary box set of the band’s debut LP and a reissue of “Hand in Glove.” Morrissey claimed Warner Records had been on board until Marr nixed the cover artwork he submitted. Marr’s side countered that he simply declined another compilation because there were already too many in existence.

With his stake now officially on the block, Morrissey looks determined to sever ties once and for all — even if it means auctioning off half of The Smiths. Whether anyone is willing to gamble on such a fractured partnership is another matter, especially when the obvious question hangs in the air: what if Marr himself offered to buy out Morrissey’s share, and would Moz even sell to him?

03.09.2025 - Seattle’s God Tongue Unleashes Ritualistic Dark Synth Track “Panic”

The face in the mirror is a stranger, carved by cruel light into angles of shame and doubt. The skin seems to ripple with flaws that no one else can see, yet they burn like brands across the mind. To live inside such a gaze is to endure a relentless storm of judgment, a tribunal without mercy. But each day brings a small rebellion: a breath held steady, a step taken forward, a whisper that the body is not the enemy. Through patience and pain, the fragile hope grows, that self and flesh may one day reconcile.

Beneath the glare of circuitry, where machines breathe their own heavy gospel, Seattle’s God Tongue exhume a furious hymn with Panic. The track is a blunt force ritual, pulling its blood from EBM’s steel-jawed pressure, acid’s writhing phosphor, and the stripped pulse of minimal wave beats. From the opening bar, the air tightens, as if the room itself is contracting under the weight of synths wired to rupture.

Camille’s voice claws through the song: half-chant, half-cry, skirting the cadence of sprechstimme. It is a human tether lashed to Isku Katerwol’s serrated electronics, the OB6 and Drum Trax spitting voltage like sparks against stone. The bassline stomps without apology, a boot through glass, while echoes rumble in subterranean chambers, collapsing on themselves like buildings felled in dream logic. The song feels, at times, like a medieval ritual,  churning like a dark synth reflection of the Virgin Prunes’ “Pagan Love Song.”

Panic is more than the mechanics of assault, however. It is confession pressed into rhythm: the ache of seeing a warped body in the mirror, the daily siege of self-doubt. Every verse feels like a hand pressed hard against the chest, measuring the slow drum of survival. Midway through, the track tears open into a massive bridge, a hammering sequence that vaults the song from claustrophobic dread into something close to deliverance.

Panic feels like a duel in the Coliseum where, just as the dust settles, a new adversary enters the arena. Each surge of bass is another gauntlet thrown down; each synth stab is a reminder that doubt is like the heads of a hydra: when one is severed, another grows.  Here, the battle is laid bare: the fight against one’s reflection.

The track doubles as a love song, though one marked with bruises. Camille sings as if to a partner, or perhaps to the fractured self, and the language quivers with that double exposure: both plea and embrace, both collapse and renewal. The heart is not steady, but it still beats, bound to rhythms larger than its own.

Listen to Panic below and order the single here.

Panic by God Tongue

Released as the second single from their debut album Liminal, out September 3rd, 2025, Panic captures the raw collision that first bound Camille and Isku together.

03.09.2025 - Berlin to Host Inaugural Synth and Minimal Wave Festival — Lieber Tot

As summer ends, Berlin is set to host a phenomenal synth to kick off the Fall season. On September 12 and 13, 2025, the city will host the inaugural edition of Lieber Tot, a two-day festival dedicated to synth and minimal wave, staged at ÆDEN on the banks of the Landwehr Canal.

Behind the festival are seasoned names from the capital’s nocturnal landscape: Else Edelstahl, mastermind of the 1920s-inspired event Bohème Sauvage; Paura Diamante, musician, DJ, and producer with roots in Eisengrau and Queer Summer Splash; as well as DJs and promoters Testbild and Sharleen Voyage, both known for Eisengrau and Letzte Welle.

Positioned as a platform outside the usual mainstream circuits, Lieber Tot assembles a cast of international artists whose work cuts through the mechanics of retro and contemporary electronic culture. For the first time, Berlin will see its own dedicated festival for the ever-expanding world of synth and minimal wave…a glaring absence in a city otherwise defined by its electronic heritage.

Expect a theatre of excess and underground bravado, fusing cabaret menace with queer counterculture and nightclub delirium! On Saturday, Berlin drag icon Antina Christ will summon her notorious “Spook House”, joined by Christina Corpse, Prince Gabriel, and Sasha Kills.

ÆDEN will be divided across two floors, featuring a sprawling garden space that will shape the setting for concerts, club nights, and performance works. Running from 7 pm until late on both nights, Lieber Tot is poised to close a conspicuous gap in Berlin’s festival landscape, where synth and minimal wave finally receive their own home.

Live Performances from:

Staatseinde (Utrecht) delivers an electrifying live assault: synthesizers throb, vocals tease, and genres collide—their set ricochets from Wave to EBM, NDW, to punk, with fearless detours in between. Imagine Kraftwerk wired on amphetamines shaking hands with the Sex Pistols tripping on acid, and you’re somewhere close.

03.09.2025 - Nero Kane Unveils Short Film for Epic Gothic Folk Ballad “As an Angel’s Voice”

Nero Kane’s new single As an Angel’s Voice comes veiled in a haunting short film by Samantha Stella, a chamber of symbols and relics that presses time into a loop. Black-and-white images stagger between ruin and reverie: an abandoned house, its walls breathing with the absence of human warmth; a woman clutching a photograph as though it might burn through her hands. The air feels suspended, as though the players are neither alive nor dead, but drifting somewhere in between, caught in a constant series of beginnings without any progress. There is a hush in the frame, a silence heavy with ritual.

The music, bringing to mind Dead Can Dance, Nick Cave, and Joszef Van Wissem, carries the same solemn procession. Kane’s thundering voice, sepulchral yet tender, glides across skeletal guitar lines, tracing the kind of chill that evokes Nico’s tragic poems.

“As if Bela Tarr and Sergei Parajanov found themselves with Alejandro Jodorowsky in the American desert,” Stella remarks; and indeed, the images wander like pilgrims into a cinema of hallucination. Each gesture carries the gravity of ritual, the suggestion of a liturgy assembled from lost devotion.

“A desert of the soul. The Love we were never given, a flutter of wings, the fall into the End. The Eternal,” says Kane, his words landing like epitaphs, spare and absolute, carved into rose-coloured granite.

The video for As an Angel’s Voice is less story than séance as it bends reality into allegory. Kane and Stella appear as imprisoned souls, recalling the overturned roles of life and death in The Others. They move as if embalmed by memory, their gestures thick with finality. Strange, dreamlike, nightmarish…the images circle, binding the song into eternity. Their faces pale as relics, they drift through corridors of grief, caught in cycles that echo the ceaseless circling of liturgy itself. The desert, both American and inward, becomes less geography than metaphysical sentence.

Watch “As an Angel’s Voice” below:

For the Love, the Death and the Poetry, Kane’s fourth studio album due 26 September via Subsound Records, promises a folk liturgy where psychomagic mysticism crosses desolate landscapes. Here, the single foreshadows that journey: a dirge paced like a funeral for what never came to pass, the intimation of eternity dressed in dust and light.

Kane and Stella’s union is more than collaboration; it is communion, staged across Europe, the UK, Los Angeles; inside churches, museums, festivals where the air itself seems to consecrate their sound. Their stage has hosted devotions beside the likes of Zola Jesus, Darkher, Marissa Nadler, each night folding myth and mortality into performance.

For the Love, the Death and the Poetry was curated by Matt Bordin (Squadra Omega), producer of Tales of Faith and Lunacy (Nasoni Records Berlin/BloodRock, 2020) and Of Knowledge and Revelation (Subsound Records, 2022).

The video for As An Angel’s Voice will be screened at the MAIIIM Centre for Contemporary Arts in Genoa at the beginning of October 2025,  in conjunction with the anthological exhibition of Samantha Stella.

Listen to As An Angel’s Voice below. The vinyl is available in a limited edition in matte white and black. The CD and digital formats contain the track Unto Thee Oh Lord, not featured on the vinyl. You can pre-order For The Love, The Death and the Poetry here and here.
