“Heavenly Down” wurde gemeinsam mit Viktor Scheer im The Mushroom Studio aufgenommen und von Dan Swäno bei Unisound gemastert. Das Cover-Artwork stammt von Kris Verwimp. Vorab gibt es mit “The Upper World” ein Lyric-Video.

Die Alternative / Noise Rock-Band DEATH BY GONG hat nach “Distant” mit “In Despair” eine zweite Single veröffentlicht. Es sind die ersten Release des deutschen Trios, welches aus Bassist Chris Breuer (HEADS., ZAHN), Sänger und Gitarrist Jobst M. Die Blackened Death Metal-Band BLACK LAVA stellt ihr neues Album “The Savage Winds To Wisdom” nach einem Musikvideo zum Song “Ironclad Sacrophagus” nun auch mit einem Video-Clip zu “Unsheathing Nightmares” vor.

Gitarrist Ben Boyle erläutert:

“Wir haben uns beim Komponieren von ‘The Savage Winds to Wisdom’ mehr Mühe gegeben. Dieses Album hat ein echtes Gefühl der Ausgewogenheit, das zum wiederholten Anhören einlädt, während wir immer noch dem treu bleiben, was wir uns vorgenommen haben: schwere, aber hymnische Melodien zu schaffen, die eine kraftvolle Geschichte erzählen”.

Sweeter than a Georgia peach yet steeped in nocturnal allure, Atlanta-based dark synth-pop duo Teardux pushes forward with an ever-growing momentum with the debut of yet another shimmering dancefloor anthem, Violets.

This latest single, from a band that has not yet released anything less than a darkwave banger, showcases Valerie Andra’s hauntingly evocative vocals and Dylan Anderson’s exquisite command of beats and melodies. Andra’s ethereal voice, echoing early Madonna with a subtle southern twang, slices through Anderson’s chiming synths and shadowy beats, leading listeners like a spectral guide. Together, their enthralling fusion of rhythm and emotion recalls the essence of Pet Shop Boys and Xymox, yet their distinctive dance music edge distinguishes them within the underground music scene.

Violets also strongly evokes the spirit of Depeche Mode’s Music For The Masses era, particularly the hypnotic pulse of Behind The Wheel. Imagine ’80s pop and classic darkwave reverberating like a disco ball casting its fragmented light in an abandoned shopping mall. Like a forgotten place where neon signs still flicker in hues of magenta and blue, enveloping store windows in a neon-tinged ghostly glow, this is the sound and vision that Teardux pulls from their aural dream space.

“Violets is about a vivid, hypnagogic fever-dream where it’s difficult to discern reality from fantasy,” says the band. “Washes of color and blurred dark street corners. Where pieces of your relationships and daily life bleed into your dreams becoming contorted and exaggerated. All while having no agency of your own.”

The lyrics of Violets wade through the deep, melancholic waters of love lost and the lingering, spectral memories it leaves behind. Phrases such as “Your heart of stone, I slept in silence” and “This love you confiscated, I’m left with nothing but disdain” paint a vivid picture of a relationship fraught with bitterness and turmoil. The imagery of “a rose left in the dead of night” and “skies of violets” conjures a haunting beauty, a poignant blend of sorrow and splendor. The chorus echoes the themes of love seized and disdain, encapsulating the tangled emotions at play. Andra’s voice, ethereal and evocative, guides listeners through these ghostly lines, drawing them into a world where the echoes of love’s past haunt the mind like whispers in the dark.

In the orbit of the City of Angels, Los Angeles drifts the post-punk act Small Planets, whose music immerses listeners in haunting, ethereal soundscapes, echoing the spirits of Cocteau Twins, The Cure, and Slowdive. Meanwhile, Denver’s Shhadows blend darkwave, post-punk, and witch house into a unique cauldron of sonic textures—think the Chemical Brothers crafting shadowy club tracks for goth aficionados.

Together, Shhadows and Small Planets unveil their rendition of Grey Cell Green, originally by British alt-rockers Ned’s Atomic Dustbin, from their 1991 debut album God Fodder.

The original Grey Cell Green pulses with the raw energy of early ’90s alternative music. With its dual bass guitars, relentless rhythms, and anthemic chorus, the track encapsulates Ned’s Atomic Dustbin’s distinctive sound and existential reflections. Emerging from Stourbridge, they injected a sense of urgency and defiance into British music, carving out their niche in alternative rock and striking a chord with a generation navigating the tension between tradition and modernity.

The lyrics explore desire as an inner force rather than an external quest, emphasizing that true desire lies within, not in elements like trees or the earth. The chorus suggests that finding desire compels one to flee, while the lyrics ponder how external perceptions shape our understanding of desire.

The Shhadows and Small Planets cover (with mastering by Slowdive’s Simon Scott) brings an intriguing new interpretation, as both bands merge their unique styles to forge a shoegaze and darkwave fusion. Their version of Grey Cell Green departs from the neo-punk energy of the original, opting instead for a slower, more ethereal approach. This reinterpretation seeks to illuminate the song from a different angle, providing a fresh take while respecting the original’s core essence.

His voice, a grating assault on the ears, cuts through the ambient hum like a rusty blade. This man, reeking of cheap whiskey and bad decisions, lurches from one group to another, each interaction more painful than the last. His laughter, loud and misplaced, echoes off the walls, drowning out the carefully curated soundtrack that defines the venue’s essence. His attempts at camaraderie are clumsy, a mockery of the convivial spirit that others share effortlessly. In a space designed for the quiet appreciation of life’s fleeting moments, he is a discordant note, a reminder of the chaos that always lurks at the edges of our carefully constructed worlds.

He is, in short, A Very Shady Character.

A Very Shady Character, the fourth and final single from The Mystic Underground’s 2023 album, Everyone Deserves A Stage, has been released. In the bustling veins of New York City’s music scene, The Mystic Underground stands as an indelible force. This synthpop duo, comprising Vladimir Valette and Benedetto Socci, has etched their presence with a certain distinctive flair. Valette’s lyrical agility and evocative vocals echo the spirit of Andy Bell from Erasure, summoning a profound intensity that captivates listeners. Meanwhile, Socci’s meticulous synth work and production prowess forge a backdrop that pulses with a haunting yet deeply affecting resonance. This track explores the awkward dance of social ineptitude. Inspired by those memorable, often cringeworthy encounters at local bars, the song spotlights that one person who, emboldened by a few too many drinks, transforms into a public nuisance, leaving a path of irritation and amusement behind them.

Embarking upon a profound meditation on the nature of success and loss, one invariably arrives at one desolate and dead-end destination. A zero-sum game, where absolute triumph bestows the spoils upon the victor while rendering the vanquished with nothing. This notion can be seen as a reflection of life’s stark realities, where power, wealth, and happiness often seem monopolized by a few, yet it also invites contemplation on the transient nature of victory and the impermanence of dominance. It challenges us to ponder the ethical dimensions of competition and the true cost of winning, questioning whether the bittersweet taste of victory can truly recompense for what is lost in the pursuit.

This is the essence behind the new song The Winner Takes It All, or T​.​W​.​T​.​I​.​A. from BLEIB MODERN, one of Berlin’s best post-punk outfits. Usually found in the cavernous venues and clubs of Berlin’s underground music scene, the band, previously aligning themselves with a lineage of prestigious imprints like Manic Depression and Wave Records, now prepares to undertake a new chapter that takes root with Young & Cold Records. On their records, Welsh duo Plastic Estate is a formidable post-punk and synth-pop act that effortlessly exudes style and swagger, the kind you can swing your hips to. POWERWOLF präsentieren heute die erste Single aus ihrem kommenden Studioalbum „Wake Up The Wicked“, das am 26. Juli über Napalm Records erscheint. „1589“ erzählt die Geschichte von Peter Stump, der im 16. Jahrhundert in der Nähe von Köln lebte, und heute als „Werwolf von Bedburg“ bekannt ist. Nachdem er als Werwolf diffamiert wurde, gestand der Bauer unter Folter mehrere Morde und wurde am 31. Oktober 1589 auf grausamste Weise hingerichtet. Diese morbide Geschichte fasziniert seitdem weltweit, unter anderem wurde sie von National Geographic aufgegriffen.

ZORNHEYM haben die Verpflichtung eines neuen Schlagzeugers und die Veröffentlichung ihrer neuesten Single „None for All“ samt Muskvideo bekannt gegeben. Nach dem Weggang von Steve Pygmalion wird künftig Qual die Aufgaben des Drummers bei der symphonischen Extrem-Metal-Band aus Stockholm übernehmen. Die erste Show mit dem neuen Lineup findet am 5. und 6. Juli beim Metal Theatre Festival in Kalmar, Schweden statt.

Zur Feier des Tages hat die Band heute ein Musikvideo zum Song „Heart Of Darkness“ online gestellt. „Der Titeltrack des Albums handelt von der Besessenheit von Geist und Seele.“ Verrät uns Gitarrist / Bassist Jared Smith. „Ein weiterer Song, der ganz natürlich aus uns herausfloss, als wir ihn schrieben. Wir wollten einen dunklen, doomigen, düsteren Breakdown auf diesem Album und ich denke, das ist uns gelungen. Alex Young glänzt wirklich mit seinen Leads bei diesem Song. Das ist mit Sicherheit einer der härtesten Tracks auf dem Album.“

“There is always a guy in the chair,” as Ned from the Spider-Man films says. This idea describes a character who guides the hero through their perilous journey, a Mission Control trope often utilized in video games. In these games, a player is given tutorials or tips on where to go next. With this in mind, Qual’s William Maybelline crafts a narrative where this role takes a darker, more introspective turn, where he is the guy in the chair, representing how we are all plugged into the matrix. “Tech Sick,” the first new music from the Lebanon Hanover co-founder in three years, explores what it means to be the overseer of one’s own cybernetic existence, caught in a web of screens and tech-induced delirium.

The song “Tech Sick” delves into the unsettling allure of technology. Maybelline expresses an almost fetishistic attraction to electronic hardware, describing a deep, visceral connection to screens and devices in a perverse manner, stroking and caressing your touch screen in some sort of tactile, techno-eroticism. He portrays a world where the seductive power of technology captivates him, leading to a symbiotic relationship that feels both fascinating and alarming. The repeated imagery of staring into an HD TV screen that “stares deep back at me” suggests a mutual, almost romantic, engagement between human and machine. This obsession is so intense that it evokes a desire to draw blood, highlighting the dark, erotic fantasy intertwined with his technological fixation.

The video for “Techsick” is a sensory plunge into a retro-futuristic nightmare. The eerie visuals, crafted by JJD and Maru, add layers of depth to the song’s thematic content, enhancing the sense of technological obsession. The showcase Maybelline writhing with his signature dance moves within a 3D grid, a digital arena that evokes both the nostalgic aesthetics of ’80s sci-fi and the unsettling prescience of Philip K. Dick. Co-starring Alice In Flower, the visuals were shot in Glasgow, Scotland, and Athens, Greece.

“Techsick” is a visceral experience. Rhys Fulber (Frontline Assembly) produced the track, and Nectarios Meintanis’s mastering ensured that every beat and synth line hit with calculated precision.

It’s been three years since Qual’s last full-length album, Tenebris In Lux. Since then, Maybelline has refined his sound, blending old-school EBM with harsh industrial electronics and heavy guitar rhythms, all cloaked in his signature haunting vocals. His forthcoming new EP promises to push these boundaries even further. The first pressing of the EP, released by Fabrika Records, will be available in a limited edition of 500 copies in transparent bloody red with black splatter.

Mit “Heathen Cross” erscheint am 31. Mai 2024 das neue Album der NWOBHM / Heavy Metal-Band CLOVEN HOOF erscheinen. Es ist das zehnte Album der Engländer und das erste mit dem neuen Sänger Harry Conklin (JAG PANZER, SATAN´S HOST, THE THREE TREMORS).

Reinhören kann man nun auch in die zweite Single “Sabbath Stones” bei YouTube. Schon seit April gibt es zu “Last Man Standing” ein Lyric-Video.

“Eine Hymne für eine moderne Metal-Generation!” versprechen ALL FOR METAL: Mit einem Video zum Titelsong “Gods Of Metal” haben ALL FOR METAL im März 2024 den ersten Song ihres kommenden Albums im Netz geteilt.

Das zweite Album der Band nennt sich “Gods Of Metal – The Year Of The Dragon” genannt, übrigens zu Ehren des diesjährigen japanischen „Jahr des Drachen“.  “Gods Of Metal – The Year Of The Dragon” erscheint am 23. August 2024 via Reigning Phoenix Music (RPM). Zum Track “Valkyries In The Sky” hat die Gruppe nun ein weiteres Musikvideo produziert. Als Gäste mit dabei sind Laura Guldemond (BURNING WITCHES) sowie Tim Kanoa Hansen (INDUCTION)

Sänger Tetzel stellte die erste Single “Gods Of Metal” mit folgenden Worten vor:

Die Death-Doom Metal-Band GREH hat mit dem Lyric-Video zu “Chained Thoughts” die dritte Single ihres kommenden Albums “Dysphoric Devotion” veröffentlicht.

 

Bereits im April teilte die süddeutsche Band ein Lyrice Video zu “Illusional Cenotaph”” Der Song sei eine ergreifende Reflexion, die der Notlage der Soldaten in den Wirren des Konflikts einen Spiegel vorhält. Er bringt die Verzweiflung und Resignation derjenigen zum Ausdruck, die in den Krieg ziehen, wohl wissend, dass sie auf dem Schlachtfeld ein unausweichliches Schicksal erwartet. Der Track beschwört die düstere Realität von Soldaten herauf, die sich ihre Zukunft als bloße Namen auf anonymen Grabsteinen vorstellen, letztlich reduziert auf vergessene Leichen. Er trauert um die Nachwehen des Krieges, wo nur ein steinerner Kenotaph als düstere Erinnerung an ihre schrecklichen Entscheidungen und die zahllosen Leben, die für eine sinnlose Sache verloren gingen, steht.

Im Februar ist mit “Thy Breath Not Mine” eine erste Vorab-Single des Albums erschienen. Der Song spiegelt eine Nahtoderfahrung wider und artikuliert den schmalen Grat zwischen Leben und Tod und endet mit einer tiefgreifenden Erkenntnis des Nichts.

“Dysphoric Devotion” ist nach zwei EPs das erste Album des deutschen Trios aus Karlsruhe und soll im Winter 2024 erscheinen.

Die Power Metal-Band ORDEN OGAN hat einen Plattenvertrag mit Reigning Phoenix Music abgeschlossen. Den Deal kommentiert Sänger Sebastian “Seeb” Levermann wie folgt:

Am Mittwoch (15.05.2024) herrschte im Westen von Dresden Ausnahmezustand im positiven Sinne: RAMMSTEIN spielten bei bestem frühsommerlichem Wetter auf dem Open Air-Gelände der sogenannten „Rinne“ am Ostragehege ihre erste Deutschland-Show der aktuellen Tour 2024. Über 50.000 Musikfans reisten an und fluteten für den Tag 1 von 4 das Stadtgebiet. Und hörte man sich um, so bleiben viele von den Gästen auch länger, um an weiteren Konzerttagen dabei zu sein. An diesem ersten Abend hatten Kurzentschlossene übrigens sogar noch Chancen auf Restkarten. Für diese Tour haben die sechs Berliner ein Best-Of Set aus ihrer nun schon fast 30jährigen Bandgeschichte zusammengestellt.

MILDREDA sind vom Teufel besessen! Das zweite physische Album der belgischen Elektro-Shootingstars mit dem vielsagenden Titel "Blue-Devilled" entpuppt sich als Konzeptalbum. Die Idee der "Hölle" zieht sich als roter Faden durch das Album, wobei der studierte Philosoph und Bandkopf Jan Dewulf jedoch nicht das religiöse Inferno meint. Er folgt inhaltlich vielmehr dem französischen Existentialisten Jean-Paul Sartre, dessen Hölle sich in den Augen anderer Menschen widerspiegelt. Musikalisch erweist sich "Blue-Devilled'' im Vergleich zum direkten Vorgänger "I Was Never Really There" als abwechslungsreicher. Die neuen Tracks bestechen mit mehr Melodien und Klangfarben. Dabei sind die düsteren kanadischen EBM-Einflüsse durchaus noch präsent, ebenso wie eine gute Prise des belgischen Stils. Doch der neue, erweiterte und offenere Sound zeigt das wahre Gesicht von MILDREDA. Im Jahr 1995 veröffentlichte der 16-jährige Jan Dewulf im Eigenverlag sein erstes Tape "II Castrato" unter dem MILDREDA-Banner. Dem rohen Erstling folgte im Jahr 1996 eine weitere Kassette mit dem Titel "De Laffe Denker" – die in Elektrokreisen vielfach kopiert wurde und weite Verbreitung fand. MILDREDA gewannen eine vielköpfige Anhängerschaft und einen ausgezeichneten Ruf in der belgischen Szene – und weit darüber hinaus. Es folgten Live-Auftritte mit so bekannten Acts wie PLASTIC NOISE EXPERIENCE, TERMINAL CHOICE, COVENANT, VNV NATION und vielen anderen. Trotz des schnellen Durchbruchs machte sich Unzufriedenheit mit dem Musikgeschäft bei Dewulf breit, der MILDREDA daraufhin auf Eis legte. In den folgenden Jahren absolvierte er ein Philosophiestudium und startete ein neues Projekt unter dem Namen DISKONNEKTED, das sich mehr auf Dance-Einflüsse fokussierte. Dennoch wuchsen MILDREDA auch während ihrer Abwesenheit durch Mundpropaganda weiter. Im Jahr 2016 kehrte Dewulf mit der digitalen Veröffentlichung "Coward Philosophy" zu seiner Liebe, den dunklen elektronischen Klängen, zurück. Das erste physisches Album "I Was Never Really There" katapultierte MILDREDA im Jahr 2021 zurück ins Rampenlicht der Electro-Szene. "Blue-Devilled" markiert, sowohl musikalisch als auch lyrisch, einen weiteren Meilenstein in der Karriere von MILDREDA. Die Belgier sind zurück und liefern den Beweis, dass selbst in einer philosophischen Hölle der Teufel immer noch die besten Songs schreibt!

Sonny Vincent, known as the founding member of NYC punk heroes Testors and bandmate of Bobby Liebling in the doom metal band The Limit, has unearthed a collection of the earliest recordings from his NYC proto-metal days with this new LP collection. Compiling rarely heard rocking tracks from DISTANCE (1969-71), FURY (1972), and LIQUID DIAMONDS (1973-75), as well as one of the earliest TESTORS demos from 1976, this LP collection shines a light on one of New York City’s darkest corners of proto-metal history. A must for fans of protometal, protodoom and bands like BANG, Poobah, Buffalo, JPT Scare Band and other obscure metal rarities.

...Only a Suggestion is the debut studio album by the desert rock band Hermano. Featuring the voice of Kyuss, John Garcia, and an all-star line-up that included bassist Dandy Brown, drummer Steve Earle (Afghan Whigs) and guitarists Mike Callahan (Earshot) and David Angstrom (Supafuzz). After passing tapes and CDs amongst each other for six months, the band members entered the studio in early 1999 to begin recording their debut album. The new Ripple Music edition was completely remixed and remastered under the watchful eyes and ears of the band by David Barrik (mixing) and Ty Tabor (mastering).

Welcome to the new Ripple series, Beneath the Desert Floor, in which the label uncovers lost treasures and gems from the early days of stoner/desert/doom rock. These are albums that may have been lost to time, perhaps never got the opportunity for vinyl pressings and didn't have the benefit of digital presence and social media. Kicking things off are The Awesome Machine, a classic hard rock/metal band from Sweden formed in 1996. After recording their self-titled 10" and the cult demo Doom, Disco, Dope, Death and Love, they secured a contract with german label "People Like You" for first album "...It's Ugly or nothing." The record was produced by King Diamond guitarist Andy La Rocque and is the perfect way to launch Ripple's time-traveling new series to rediscover this lost classic of heavy riffing goodness!
