Megaherz is a prominent band in the German Neue Deutsche Härte scene, which was formed in 1993. They have had numerous line-up changes but managed to keep a large fan-base and achieve stable success. Mathias Elsholz is the name of the new front man with whom Megaherz are beginning their new musical era with s.a.d. music. With him the band itself has gone through a heart transplant and now beats more emotional and alive than ever. In order to realize their new and ambitious goals, they had none other than Ralph Quick (Die Happy, H-Blockx, etc.) on board as producer. The album "5" was recorded in the Lundgaard-Studios in Denmark. The outcome is an outstanding album that spans all genres of the category "Hard and German" - somewhere between industrial, dark rock, electronica, and "fat grooves". An album that rocks and speeds along, but also one that doesn"t ignore the sensitive, down-tempo ballads. Rougher, tougher and more organic: three features which, due to their outstanding stage presence, Munich based rock band Megaherz have always been known for. Along with the thrilling intensity of their fifth album"Herzwerk II" these very features mark a development in style and production. " 'Herzwerk II" is our most uncompromising record to date as the songs are less dominated by electronics," guitarist, songwriter and co-producer Christian "x-ti" Bystron explains their latest work. Officially there have been over 30 musicians involved with the band. Therefore a historical litany of them all would be impractical. Formed in Los Angeles in 1979 and fronted by 16 year old vocalist/lyricist Rozz Williams (real name Roger Alan Painter) who had previously been a member of the bands The Upsetters, The Asexuals, Daucus Karota and briefly Premature Ejaculations. The names of some of these acts would be resurrected by Rozz man years after leaving Christian Death. The bands name was a corruption of then massively popular fashion designer Christian Dior"s name. (See http://www.rozzwilliams.com/ or http://www.rozznet.com/ )This line-up of the band released their only album, Only Theatre of Pain, in 1982. A dark, sinister style of punk rock. The album gained local success. A year later the band completely broke up. Singer Rozz then teamed up with members from the band Pompeii 99 founded by singer, guitarist, song writer Valor Kand. Rozz took over vocals leaving Valor to focus on guitar. Pompeii 99 had released one album, Look At Yourself, to much acclaim; it, too, can be said to have an apocalyptic theme with a punk rock flavor though some songs, such as "Love Me For My Mind" are far more pop in nature. Pompeii 99 had been planning their first tour when it was proposed by their French record company to merge Pompeii 99 into a new version of Christian Death which, after some debate, was agreed upon. Thus, began the new line-up of Christian Death and the first Pompeii 99 tour became the first Christian Death tour. [Lastfm] |

| 02.02.2012 | Gothic | Zeraphine - Kalte Sonne 2003 | Genre: Gothic Rock, Gothic, German, Darkwave, Gothic Metal
Zeraphine are a gothic alternative band from Berlin, Germany, formed in 2000 by Sven Friedrich (vocals, programming, lead song writing) and Norman Selbig (guitars) from the then-defunct Dreadful Shadows. After the acclaimed goth rock band Dreadful Shadows decided to split and go their separate ways, Sven and Norman collaborated with ex-Dreadful Shadows producer Thommy Hein on a project called Helix. However, since the Helix name was under copyright by another band, they were forced to rename themselves Zeraphine - taken from the Hebrew bible"s concepts of the 'seraph" (or seraphim), which is a class of angel in traditional Judaism. This concept was purposely taken as an ironic gesture, given Sven"s lyrics are often critical of organized religion. Once Zeraphine, the band signed onto the Drakkar Entertainment record label. Originally, additional band members Manuel Senger (guitars), Michael Nepp (bass), and Marcellus Puhlemann (drums) joined the project as studio musicians. This changed after their debut album was released, and each member began contributing music and ideas to all following releases. Zeraphine"s debut album, 'Kalte Sonne" (2002), gained notoriety for it"s lyrics; unlike Dreadful Shadows, whose songs were written entirely in English, Sven elected to pen an album completely in German, citing that "I simply tried to transfer my style of writing to my mother tongue and I liked it quite a lot. I always thought it would be impossible." Their following album, 'Traumaworld" (2003), saw Sven return to English, with only two songs written in German. [Lastfm] |

Sonja Kraushofer meets for the first time Tobias Hahn, who produced the L'Âme Immortellealbum "Dann habe ich umsonst gelebt". As a result of this creative collaboration and of extended talks, the idea emerges to bring forth a new conjoint project that will also involve Dirk Riegert in a pivotal role as a songwriter. As early as 1999, Sonja Kraushofer, while on a tour with the band Christian Death, met Christian Death's guitarist at that time, Wim Leydes. He then goes on to perform some of his own compositions for Sonja and the singer is elated. One of the pieces is entitled "Forest Song" that is featured on the debut album "Home" and that in turn leads Wim to join the band. In autumn, the first song drafts are created. The cello assumes a central role and PERSEPHONE succeeds in winning over the instrumentalist Martin Höfert, who will later become the live-arranger of the formation. After a half a year of preparations and elaborations of the existing drafts the first full-length album with the title "Home" is produced at the Nachtschicht-studios by Tobias Hahn and Dirk Riegert. The artwork-artist Joachim Luetke is responsible for the visual presentation and his name is often mentioned in connection with bands such as Marilyn Manson, Dimmu Borgir, Pain and Sopor Aeternus. The first album is released in January and is welcomed both by the public and the press. PERSEPHONE presents itself at fortresses, castles and other buildings with flair for the first time live, and embarks together with Janus on the very successful "Winterreise"-tour. [Lastfm] |

'90's industrial kingpins, SKREW, have stripped off their exoskeleton to reveal an unholy bastion of extreme metal for an Antichrist nation. This angry metal machine is back with more psalms of destruction in a world overwrought with flesh, blood, and technological demons. The band SPIN magazine dubbed "the future of industrial noise" has metamorphosed into the soundtrack of your own metallic apocalypse. In an age where personal discourse is no longer civil, where obedience is forced upon the masses by the elite few, and nearly everyone's scars and bruises are flayed out for the whole world to see, SKREW has managed to encapsulate the insanity that has all but become today's norm. Led by original founding member, Adam Grossman, and a collective of six intense and angry rogue soldiers, SKREW returns to lead the unwashed masses into an aural revolt against the status quo. The formidable, towering, tattooed vocalist VSYR oversees the congregation of hate. He is propped up on the broad shoulders of three guitarists Grossman, Bill Ables, and Dusty Kohn, bassist Myke Bingham, drummer David Baxter, and sonically assaulted by keyboardist Paul Gooch. SKREW has already begun reigning chaos on the masses starting with the 2011 SXSW Music Festival. Predicted to be the "hardest band at SXSW" (About.com - Punk Music) and to bring the "serious metal" (MetalSucks), Skrew delivered. The band's rousing set, (they shared the stage with former Pantera lead singer Philip Anselmo), was a resounding success. [Lastfm] |

The band APERION (from Slovenia) was given birth on 1st November 2002 on the foundations of the former band XANTHOCHROID. Only the guitar player and flutist remained in Aperion. At this turning point the music genre changed from grunge with classical instruments (violin and flute) to rock with the same classical parts. Now in the band were next instruments: guitar, bass, violin, flute, drums and woman vocal. Their music was described as rock foundation with ornaments of all musical styles. After two years due to different problems and disagreements, the band changed. In two months the seating of the band was totally different. Only the guitarist an bassist remained of the "old" band. In the year 2004 also the instruments changed. Now the violin was replaced by viola, the cello and didgeridoo is added, and also the flutist, drumer and singer changed. From then on their music is developing in new dimensions, dimensions, which lead them to unknown world. World of music and APERION. Aperion as a group introduces the diversity in use of stringed and symphonic instruments next to standard rock combo line-up. Despite the hard rock or even metal base the intriguing sounds of flute, viola and cello with help of dramatic didgeridoo and spinto soprano leading vocalist manage to curve the edges and make the music sound very theatrical. With live performance by all classical instruments, significant costumography, on stage choreography, light effects and special guests (contemporary dancers, orchestra, fire blowing artists) Aperion is defined as a strong on stage performer, also winning recognition with numerous live act awards at international band competitions. But Ordo Equilibrio awaited to originate until May of 1993 as Tomas decided to abandon his participation in Archon Satani by reason of several insignificant inconsistencies pertaining to the bands current status and continuing progress. Accoring to Tomas, "Ordo Equilibrio's primary purpose was to serve as the aesthetic and creative outlet for a multitude of ideas, aesthetics, ambitions and ideals. Tiamat is a metal band that formed in Täby, Sweden in 1988. Their music has been the subject of debate, utilizing subgenres like black metal, progressive, doom/death and gothic, but more recently they have focused on what has been described as atmospheric gothic metal with ethnic, psychedelic and experimental elements. Biography: Initially, the band played straightforward black metal under the name Treblinka. After having recorded the album Sumerian Cry in 1989, vocalist/guitarist Johan Edlund and bassist Jörgen Thullberg parted ways with the other two founding members, and subsequently changed the name to Tiamat. The Sumerian Cry album, as recorded by Treblinka, was released as Tiamat's debut album in June 1990. After the debut, Edlund's leadership would modify the band's style with influences ranging from Mercyful Fate, Candlemass, Pink Floyd and King Crimson, with Sumerian lyrical themes. German guitarist Waldemar Sorychta would produce and contribute instrumentation to many of the band's albums, as well as those by Tiamat's own tour and labelmates, including Moonspell, Rotting Christ, Lacuna Coil and Samael. 1994's critically acclaimed Wildhoney mixed raw vocals, slow guitar riffs and synthesizer sounds which sounded different from other extreme metal bands active at that time. An almost continuous forty-minute piece of music, Wildhoney was considered to be a landmark release within the progressive/doom metal genres and would lead to the band's appearances at the Dynamo and Wacken Open Air metal festivals in 1995. The group would play a second gig at Dynamo two years later. [Lastfm] |

Their earlier albums have provided a great deal of influence to the gothic metal genre. The band was one of the first ones who made use of contrasting vocals - male bass vocals and death growls and female soprano singing. On their first three albums (Theatre of Tragedy, Velvet Darkness They Fear, Aégis) Theatre of Tragedy presented lyrics written predominantly in a form of Olde English, an early form of the language prior to Shakespearean times. Starting from the album Musique, however, the band made drastic changes to their style, which became significantly inspired by electro-rock and electro-pop, abandoning Early Modern English lyrics writing, heavier guitar riffing and death growls in the process. This style change was consequently continued on the following album, Assembly. After a long break and after changing the female vocalist due to musical differences, and furthermore their management and the record label, Theatre of Tragedy released their new album Storm, the first one with their new singer, Nell Sigland (from The Crest). On this album, the electronic influences are reduced again in favour of simplicity and naturalism. According to Hein Frode Hansen, Storm is to be seen as the missing link between Aégis and Musique. | 25.01.2012 | Industrial | Prick - The Wreckard Remastered 2009 | Genre: Industrial, Industrial Rock, Alternative, Rock, Noise
During the early 1990s, Kevin McMahon started the industrial rock band Prick. Prick was eventually signed to Trent Reznor and John Malm's Nothing Records label. The band's debut self-titled album was released in 1995, with Reznor producing four of the album's ten tracks. Prick's lead single, "Animal," received high rotation on MuchMusic and MTV, and Prick opened the US leg of Nine Inch Nails and David Bowie's Outside tour. Unfortunately, Nothing's parent label, Interscope Records, dropped Prick before McMahon could record a follow-up.
In the wake of this set-back, McMahon went on a years-long hiatus from music. Prick reemerged in 2002 with The Wreckard, independently released by McMahon over the Internet, and featuring many songs once slated for the second, canceled Nothing Records album. [Lastfm] |

Puissance is a Swedish neoclassical martial act, formed in 1993. The band is made up of members Henry Möller {also of Arditi) and Frederik Söderlund. Due to their aesthetic approach and member associations, Puissance are often associated with black metal. However, they do not make any use of guitars and rely on electronic instrumentation such as synthesizers and samplers, resulting in an approach heavily influenced by industrial music, but the music is described as heavy neoclassical ambient marches. The recurring theme among most of the song lyrics is extreme misanthropy and nihilism. Nuclear holocaust is also a commonly explored theme. While influenced by fascism and totalitarian dictatorship, they are not fascists themselves; they merely employ these themes as a way to oppress their listeners. [Lastfm] |

He stayed with the band just over 1 year before going on to create his own solo project, though unlike his previous band the music would be dark ambient oriented. Ellefsen was experimenting greatly with music during his early solo career. He started four separate projects, though the focus was always on Mortiis.
Ellefsen wrapped up work on the soundtrack to the movie Broken and The Devil's Chair (Renegade Films) in 2007. Both films were directed by Adam Mason who first worked with him on the Mortiis video for Decadent & Desperate. Having completed an album's worth of songs, Ellefsen commented at how they were "atmospheric and eerie" and also "very dark" while "some of it actually is semi-song structured, with some melody and sense to it." They were done under the Mortiis name. The collected music, will eventually be released as a Mortiis album. Mortiis as a band was formed shortly after the release of The Smell of Rain. Triarii is a German martial industrial act. They combine martial industrial with neo-classical and even neo-military pop. The name of the group comes from Latin: The Triarii (Latin singular: triarius) was the third standard line of infantry of the Roman Republic"s army. Its name is related to the Latin word tres ("three"), ultimately derived from Proto-Indo-European *trei-. When suffering defeat, the first and second lines, the Hastati and Principes, fell back on the Triarii to attempt to reform the line and allow for a counter attack or withdrawal of the other lines. Because falling back on the Triarii was an act of desperation, to mention "falling on the Triarii" ("ad triarios rediisse") became a common Roman phrase indicating one to be in a desperate situation. To be the officer of the triarii was an honor. It made the individual one of the best men in the legion. [Lastfm] |

Velvet Acid Christ (VAC) is an electro-industrial band based in Denver, Colorado USA. They mix electro-industrial/EBM music with classic acid techno elements and Erickson's harsh vocals. VAC was formed in 1990 as a recreational complement to the emotional frustrations and drug experiences shared by its members, though it has since evolved into a form of social expression and commentary that is maintained by longstanding member Bryan Erickson. The band gained limited popularity in Europe's underground nightclub scene during the mid-1990s and was introduced to North America as well as other continents shortly thereafter.
Bryan Erickson, a resident of Westminster, Colorado, has been the lead vocalist, musician, and producer behind Velvet Acid Christ. As one of the band's founding members and its primary influence, the outspoken and occasionally controversial individual has been synonymous with VAC for most of its existence. Consequently, most of the band's praises, comparisons, and criticisms have been aimed at Erickson, and the direction of the project has been altered at times to reflect his own developments, leading him to establish an active presence on the Internet as the band's spokesperson. Along with Erickson, several other musicians have been credited with contributions to VAC. In the group's early years, its contributors held more permanent roles; after a number of roster changes due to personal and creative differences, Erickson began consulting outside talent on a per-need basis. This process has shifted, and guitarist Todd Loomis and audio engineer Dan Olson are now credited as band members. [Lastfm] |

LOVE LIKE BLOOD - the story of a Gothic Rock legend. 10 years, a pretty damned long time and one which is of course not completely documented by recordings. The nucleus of the 4-man band still consists of the Eysel brothers: Yorck, the younger of the two is responsible for the typical LLB-vocals and most of the lyrics and Gunnar, the bassist, who prefers to stay in the background. Their first release was on their own label Deathwish Office, which caused quite a stir in the years to come. It all started with 1989 "Sinister Dawn" 4-track vinyl EP. The next step in the story was entitled "Flags of Revolution" which came on the market in 1990 as being a typical album for that era, containing serious political statements of the band. This year marks also the first line-up change. Peter Büchele (guitar) left the band and has been replaced by Stephen Noschilla. Nevertheless "Flags of Revolution" has been the album which entered several alternative charts and can be described as their breakthrough album. Love Like Blood returned with the 5-track Mini-Album "Ecstasy" in 1991. A midsize album in between many tours across Europe, which mainly has been dedicated for their fan base. This Mini-Album contains their first cover song of a neverending series. The Rolling Stones-Cover "Angie" proves that the band does not shy away from doing cover versions of bands who have made Rock history. [Lastfm] |

Die Krupps is a German industrial band formed in 1980 by Juergen Engler and Ralf Dörper . Over the years they have produced krautrock-tinged metalbashing industrial, old-school ebm, industrial electro and, most recently, industrial metal/neue deutsche härte. The band's name comes from the Krupp dynasty - one of pre-war Germany's main industrial families. This name was apparently chosen for its industrial connotations, as the band is strongly anti-Nazi. In some interviews the band stated that Visconti's movie "The Damned" - a depiction of the fictitious German industrial dynasty of the Essenbecks - was the main inspiration. Die Krupps's debut EP, 1981's Stahlwerkssymphony, was in the vein of metal-on-metal industrial acts like Einstürzende Neubauten. Their following album, 1982's Volle Kraft Voraus, combined the industrial sound of their debut with electronic rhythms similar to DAF. In 1984, the group released their first English-language album, Entering the Arena, which combined grand, orchestral arrangements with their trademark metallic percussion and a more conventional synthpop sound. Doerper left to join Propaganda, and Die Krupps went on hiatus for a few years. In 1989, they collaborated with Nitzer Ebb — a band their sound had clearly influenced — to remake Volle Kraft Voraus's "Wahre Arbeit, Wahrer Lohn" as "The Machineries of Joy." The single was a major club hit,and it resparked interest in the band, who followed in 1990 with the now-classic "Germaniac" single. [Lastfm] |
