23.04.2024 - History Of Guns presents ‘No Longer Earthbound’ single ahead of new album
UK electro-goth post-punk act History Of Guns presents “No Longer Earthbound”, the first taste of their eighth album, “Half Light” out June 20 via Liquid Len Recording Company. “Half Light” was mastered by Pete Maher (Pixies, U2, Nick Cave, Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails).
History Of Guns was formed in Hertfordshire in 1996 becoming the frontrunners of the UK’s Wasp Factory / FuturePunk scene of the early 2000s. After going on hiatus in 2012, they returned in 2022 with a new album – “Forever Dying In Your Eyes” – then set about finishing an electronic project they’d begun in 2008. The result is this “Half Light” album, produced by Max Rael and mixed by Max Rael and Caden Clarkson with mastering by Pete Maher (U2, Pixies, Nick Cave, J&MC, Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails). On this new album founding members Del Alien (vocals) and Max Rael (keyboards, programming) are joined by guitarist Caden Clarkson, the newest member of History Of Guns.
On the album we also noticed a guest performance by Andy Webster and Marnie from Spucktute on “Never Give it Up”, Amon Ásentir & Mark Eris from Xykogen on “Arcadia”, the Arcadia Choir (Emma Mills, Priyanka O’Neill, Sohm O’Neill and Ninotschka G.) on “Arcadia” and Nykky Spectre on “An Invitation”.
Related newsUK industrial / post-punk History Of Guns have new album out: 'Forever Dying In Your Eyes'Max Rael says this about the new single: “This is a song about shifting focus away from this planet and to other places or realities. The existentialist question about why worry about saving the planet and endangered species when ultimately life will be unlivable on Earth in 1.3 billion years? If everything ends anyway, where else could we go? We pictured escaping the planet either through space travel, virtual reality or death. It is also about what we choose to leave behind as we shed one existence and go looking for another. That’s not to say History Of Guns don’t care about the planet. We recycle! Though apparently most of it ends up in landfill anyway.”

23.04.2024 - Clone present all new post-punk single ‘Clone’
Brooklyn-based post-punk outfit Clone (a supergroup featuring members of The Veldt, Dead Leaf Echo, Namesake and Pilot To Gunner) present “Dividing Line”. “Dividing Line” is a song “about how Donald Trump tried to start a class war within the USA,” says the band. It will be the lead track from their debut record “CL. 1”, out this summer via Portland’s Little Cloud Records and North Carolina’s 5BC Records.
Led by LG Galleon, frontman of Dead Leaf Echo, Clone started playing shows in summer of 2019. “CL.1” was recorded and mixed by NYC legendary producer Martin Bisi (Sonic Youth, Swans, Brian Eno, John Zorn, Herbie Hancock, Iggy Pop, Helmet, Dresden Dolls, Cop Shoot Cop) at his BC Studio (actually built by Brian Eno). The material was then and mastered by Fred Kevorkian, another name that will ring many bells. Besides LG Galleon we also find NYC musicians Gregg Giufree (Pilot to Gunner), Max Idas and Dominick Turi. Live, he is joined by Paul Liziragga (Namesake) and Alex Cox (The Veldt).
The video for “Dividing Line”, which involved claymation, drawing and digital rendering, was created by Preston Spurlock.

23.04.2024 - Atrium Carceri & Kammarheit – Apparatus (Album – Cryo Chamber)
Genre/Influences: Dark-Ambient, Cinematic.
Format: Digital, CD.
Background/Info: This is one more collaboration between Swedish artists Simon Heath (Atrium Carceri) and Pär Boström (Kammarheit). This new opus comes two years after the “Colossus”-album. The work wants to explore ‘both a barren surface of enormous structures and ancient underground passageways’.
Related newsAtrium Carceri & Kammarheit – Colossus (Album – Cryo Chamber)Content: This work invites listeners to dream but also to dive into the dark, imaginary, universe of both artists. Low sound frequencies have been mixed with multiple field recordings and manipulated noises to accentuate the darkness of the production. I noticed a passage with a kind of sacred, mystic,-like chant while other passages are driven by a slow cadence.
+ + + : I missed a climax at the previous work but got it at “Apparatus”. The last part of the work is featuring a few sonic pearls leading the listener into a state of ecstasy. “Stellular Glypts”” is a title with a magic touch featuring mystic chants and intimate darkness. The ominous sphere has something really powerful and even addictive.
– – – : The last part of the album is great but the very last song rather sounds as an anticlimax.
Conclusion: Atrium Carceri and Kammarheit reveal a true chemistry resulting in a fascinating work.
Best songs: “Stellular Glypts”, “Stirring”, “Mechanism”.
